Carlisle’s Edenside ground staged its first Minor Counties game for four years – and 19 wickets tumbled on the first day.
Visitors Lincolnshire won the toss and opted to bat but were bowled-out for 152 in 65.2 overs.
In their turn Cumberland fared worse and after losing half their team for 42, were just 88-9 at the close with 41 overs completed.
Prospects for play today were poor with rain falling at the scheduled start and a poor weather forecast for the rest of Monday.
Dan Conway, the Bishop Auckland seam bowler was Cumberland’s hero with 6-39 as Lincolnshire struggled. Only a determined 50 from number five batsman Paul Cook got them past the century mark.
James Lowe picked-up 3-39 for Cumberland with his off-spin while Barrow wicket-keeper Chris D’Leny took five catches.
Lowe was one of only two Cumberland batsmen to reach double figures. He made 16 while newcomer Naz Mohammad from the New Brighton club, brought in as a last minute replacement, made 18 batting at number ten.
Conway (4no) and Daniel Wearing (5no) were together at the close with both Gareth Clough and Stuart Airey taking three wickets for the visitors.
