Rain destroyed any chances of either Cumberland or Lincolnshire claiming their first Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division victory of the season.

After the second day's play had been washed out completely, hosts Cumberland declared on their overnight score of 88 for nine.
Lincolnsire were building an imposing lead when the rain began to fall.

Half-centuries from Martyn Dobson (59) and Vikram Atri (57) had helped Lincolnshire to 158 for two, a total on which they declared – but no further play was possible, as the rain continued to fall in Carlisle.

Cumberland would have been asked top score 23 for victory but they nvr even got the opportunity to get out and start their reply.
Boh teams took eight points from the game – four for bowling and four for the draw.

Cumberland complete their season next week-end – August 23, 24 and 25 at Luton against Bedfordshire.
