Gary Pratt CumberlandCumberland scored their highest-ever total inMinor Counties criocket to help salage a draw against Northumberland at Jesmond.

In an intriguing final day Cumberland – forced to follow-on 217 behind – made 401, which left Northumberland 185 to win in 36 overs.

When play ended the home county were 173-7, leaving them with 11 point while Cumberland took home eight.

Cumberland, 190-3 overnight and still 27 adrift, added a further 44 runs before Carl Hey was bowled by Steven Boyd for 41.

Skipper Gary Pratt was joined by James Beaumont and they took the score past the 300 mark, before John Malpin struck. He had Beaumont trapped leg before for 19.

Smith scored 41 from 92 balls and then Jamie Cole was bowled by Steven Boyd for a duck.

Former Durham star Pratt was ninth man out for a superb 149 which included 17 fours off 221 balls – his best score for the county.

The visitors were eventually dismissed in the 96th over with Boyd and Muchall claiming three wickets apiece.

Northumberland made a poor start to their run-chase losing Singh (5) and Muchall (23), and they were soon followed by first innings centurion Gary Scott (14) and Bradley Parker (1).

At 54-4 it was Cumberland who had suddebnly become the favourits if anbody was going to win.

A fifth-wicket stand of 44 between Michael Turns and Mark Wood got Northumberland going again before Paul Hindmarch struck. Turns was clean-bowled for 15, his third wicket of the innings.

Wood struck eight boundaries in his best county score of 55 before he was caught by Pratt off Hindmarch, while Phil Nicholson holed out to Mark Robertshaw off the penultimate ball of the innings.
