Cleator thirds went to the top of the Cumbria Cricket League when they enjoyed a big win over British Steel.
An unbeaten 94 from Alan Hocking was ably supported by knocks of 60 from Johnny Martin and 35 from youngster Jamie Rogers as the Cleator side amassed 231 for 3 in their 40 overs.

In reply the Steelmen managed a respectable 135 all out with Liam Ryan (30) top scoring.

Cleator’s bowling attack shared the wickets with Scott Saunders taking 2 for 6 off his 4 overs.

Gosforth, who had been Cleator’s victims the week before bounced back to produce a four wicket winning margin over Whitehaven III with Jack Graham being unbeaten on 56. Whitehaven had earlier set a total of 155 for the  loss of five wickets with Dave Bawden rounding off a good overall performance with 52 to go with the two wickets he took during the Gosforth innings.

James Benson (48) and Mike Baker (3-15) were other good performers for Whitehsven.

Results - British Steels 135ao (L Ryan 30, C Simons 21, J Burgess 17, S Saunders 2-6, J Moore 2-23, P Saunders 2-22) v Cleator III 231-3 (A Hocking 94no, J Martin 60, J Rogers 35).
Gosforth 156-6 (J Graham 56no, B Strong 48, M Baker 3-16) v  Whitehaven III 155-5 (D Bawden 52, James Benson 48, B Cavaghan 22, A Kirkam 4-36).
This weekend’s fixtures -  Sunday Whitehaven III v Egremont II and Cleator III v Workington III.
