 The weather intervened on Saturday in the North Lancs Cumbria League with two Premier Division and three Division One games unable to get started.
The Kirkby v Cleator, and Millom v Furness games were washed out in the Premier Division without a ball being bowled.
There was no play possible in three First Division games - Cleator II v Hawcoat Park, Dalton v Duddon SC and Lindal Moor v Millom II.
Premier Division title challengers Keswick didn’t get much play at Vickerstown for when rain washed out proceedings, the visitors were 67 for 2, with Andy Rigg making 48 of them.
Workington got in their game with Cockermouth at Keswick but they suffered a surprise defeat.
The visitors were about 30 runs short of what they needed when they were bowled-out for 171 of which Matthew Gorley made 66. Cockermouth were carried to victory at 174-7 by a very good knock from Gareth White (62).
Penrith’s superb start to the season is becoming no more than a distant memory as they lost by 39 runs at home to Whitehaven.
Whitehaven made 197 with David Watson (76) and professional Ryan Butterworth (47) leading the way. Home pro Upul Fernando took 4-41.
Penrith looked to be going well on 127-2 but collapsed dramatically as Butterworth (pictured) took 6-45 and they were bowled-out for 158. Nick Birtle (50) and Fernando (42) were the early mainstays for Penrith.
Carlisle got off to a slow start at home to Haverigg, crawling to 60-1 in the first 30 overs.
But professional Saliya Saman accelerated the run rate and finished on 71 not out, as they eventually finished on 181-4.
Haverigg’s weakened batting line-up never really threatened the Carlisle total, and struggled to a draw at 130-7. Second team wicketkeeper Drew Postlethwaite top-scored with 45 and Lee Readitt took 3-39 for Carlisle.
In rain-hit Division One, Ulverston had visitors Lanercost 37-1 when play was abandoned while Workington seconds were bowled-out for 121 by visitors Appleby Eden. Ian Batty top-scored with 41 but no further play was possible.
That left only one game which went the distance. Wigton made 221-3 led by Bobby Sherlock (82 not out) and Nick Watt (50) but had to settle for a draw.
Egremont batted out the overs at 111-6 with Ian Littleton top-scoring with 35 and Mike Holliday taking 4-10 for Wigton.
In the Second Division no results were possible. Two games did get a start but like the others were eventually abandoned.
The Sowerby Cup final will be between Wigton and Dalton and is to be played at Penrith C.C. on Sunday, August 15th starting at 1.00 p.m.
Dalton scrambled to a one wicket semi-final win at Egremont while Wigton beat Workington seconds by five wickets.
