Age group Leagues drawing to exciting finale PDF Print E-mail

Several Cumbria Junior Cricket League competitions are reaching their climax as August draws closer.

In the League Cup, which is played as 'Pairs Cricket' at Under 13 and Under 15, the semi finals stage has been reached.

At Under 13 Penrith Gold play Appleby whilst Carlisle Green entertain Workington with the final planned for mid August. Carlisle Green (pictured) will be looking to add to the County Cup they won earlier in the season at this age group

On Friday the Under 15 League Cup Quarter Finals were settled.

Appleby narrowly beat Nunwick in what turned out to be a superb game of cricket.

Appleby's imposing 345 looked safe mid way but some late order hitting took Nunwick close. Chris Kirkpatrick’s dismissal of Raglan in the 17th over pegged Nunwick back when they looked to be in with a good chance.

Penrith Green travelled across country to take on Whitehaven and ran out winners by 34 runs thanks to efforts by Ryan Martin 48no and Alistair Craig 22no.

Workington ran out comfortable winners against Cockermouth. After winning the toss Workington’s bowlers restricted Cockermouth to 219, each taking a wicket and bowling very tightly - only one extra conceded in total.

After eight overs, with Workington on 212 having lost four wickets, the game was still in the balance. However, only one more wicket was lost as the final three pairs made steady progress, Workington closing on 269. They now face Penrith Gold or Keswick.

Sadly the weather intervened on Sunday and washed out what should have been the title decider in the Western half of the under 13 league between Keswick and Workington, Penrith Gold having already clinched the Eastern league.

The Under 15 League is also finely poised with a couple of weeks to go with little separating Appleby and Wigton in the East and Workington and Cockermouth Gold in the West.

At the Under 11 age group Keswick have secured their respective league whilst in the other two regional leagues Appleby and Carlisle Green are level, whilst Cleator are hot on the tails of Cockermouth..
