In the latest round of Under-15 games Appleby had a big win over Lanercost.
Appleby 203-4 (Max Winder 34, Chris kirkpatrick 30, Bradley Croasdale, 32 and Lewis Macrea 30) v Lanercost 46ao (James Nicholson 2-12 , Max Winder 4-11 , Liam Dent 2-4).
Appleby, led by Max Winder, pushed on to impose an impresssive total in their batting. Lanercost never gave up and offered dogged resistance whilst batting.
Carlisle Blue v Penrith Green No Play - Rain and Cleator v Keswick No Play - Rain.
Cockermouth Gold 72-1 (Ed Gate 27no, Jack Mason 17) v Workington Blue 69-9 (Jack Hunter 23, Matthew Hodgson 4-5).
Workington were in all sorts of trouble at 20 for 6 before Jack Hunter hit a gutsy 23. Matthew Hodgson did the damage for Cockermouth taking four of the top six for just 5 runs. Cockermouth comfortably knocked off the runs with 7 overs
to spare, Ed Gate remaining unbeaten on 27.
Whitehaven v Egremont No Play - Rain
Workington 97-2 (Jake Dainel 33ret, Matthew Lowden 20, Andrew Ireland 18no) v Cockermouth Green 96ao (Michael Smith 29, Lewis Hull 4-14, Jack Whinn 2-11, Liam Ryan 2-11) Four wickets for Lewis Hull, an Under 12 player, playing his first Under 15 game.
Michael Smith's 29 for Cockermouth included six 4's
In the Under-13's matches Appleby also had a big win over Nunwick.
Appleby 162-5 Mike Newton 31ret. Josh Brabbins 25 Sam Morland 23 Joe Davidson 22) v Nunwick 68ao (Adam Hullock 4-0-10-3 Tom Baines 4-1-12-3, Sam Morland 3-1-10-2).
A very good all round display from Appleby,with special mention for Tom Baines leg spin - its good to see spin bowling
playing its part.
Carlisle Blue 153-6 (B Greig 22 D Farish 25 J Harwood 23 not out , A Herd 16 not out, H Cowper 2-10) v Threlkeld 93-9 (C Robson 22, J Harwood 3-25 and three catches).
Cleator v Workington No Play - Rain
Cockermouth 108-4 (Jonny Norman 33ret, Dan Poole 22no, William Ford 21, Matthew Smith 2-5) v Workington Blue 107-4 (Zak Jones 30ret, Liam Irving 30ret, Dan Poole 2-23).
This was a superb game of under 13 cricket which Cockermouth won with one ball remaining. Batting first, Workington's innings was based around a partnership from Zak Jones and Liam Irving, both of whom retired on 30 after playing a good mixture of strokeplay
coupled with resolute defence to good bowling.
Cockermouth opener William Ford batted solidly, playing several nice legside shots in his 21. Jonny Norman first four scoring shots were all 4's as he powered to 33 and kept Cockermouth in line with the asking rate.
Workington's Matthew Smith bowled four excellent overs of line and length and was rewarded with the days best bowling figures of 2 for 5. However, a brisk 22 not out from Dan Poole saw Cockermouth home with one ball to spare and rounded of a good day for Poole who also chipped in with two wickets.
