Cleator and Penrith Green have made progress in the County Cup for Under 15’s.
In round one Cleator made 153-3 (S. Jacobson 36, J. Rodgers 38, A. Hodgson 31, S. Saunders 26 no) and then bowled-out Nunwick Gold for 58.
R. Collin made 20 of those while S. Lee took 4-9 and .Saunders had 2-2.
In round two Penrith Green 125-3 (S Cameron 49, R Martin 30 no, J Cowperthwaite 18) beat Carlisle Blue 122-2 (M Slack 51 ret, J Walker 26 no, B Purdham 21).
There was plenty of action, too, in the second round of the County Cup for Under 13’s.
Carlisle Green 163-2 (H Dhalech 33 ret, D Gommersall 30 ret, M Hawley 30 ret, H Grant 29no) beat Keswick 127ao (M Clarke 30 ret, J Creighton 21, B Connan 3-13).
From a score of 16-4 against Cleator, Cockermouth recovered superbly and were 22-4 at halfway.
Dan Poole retired on 30 and Oscar Drimmie remained 24 not out when Cockermouth reached 80-4 at the close. Pick of the bowlers was Craig Sharp with 4-1-18-2.
Cleator never recovered from losing both their county players for ducks. Dave Hodgson top scored with 19, but the damage had been done by Will Welford 4-0-17-3 and Jonny Norman 4-0-7-2 as they were bowled-out for 64.
Strong batting from Penrith against a weakened Whitehaven team produced a large total which was always going to be tough to beat.
They reached 152-6 led by Greg Hall 21, Lewis Pamphilon 35 ret and Ben Dixon 30 ret while S Cockbain 2-20 and M Ball 2-23 did best with the ball for Whitehaven.
As a result of the high target Whitehaven had to go for their shots and fell to tight bowling and some excellent catching, seven in all, including two outstanding ones by Ben Dixon and another by Harry Phillips.
Cockbain top-scored with 12 not out when Whitehaven were bowled-out for 57 as G Hall 2-8, Steven Cherry 2-4, Liam Robinson 3-13 and Dan Pickthall 2-3 shared the bowling honours.
Carlisle Blue had a big win over Great Corby after making 140-7 (Yousef Sahib 32 retired, Ben Greig 30 retired, Thomas Coulthard 30 retired Mitchell Reeves 2 for14).
In reply Great Corby were bowled-out for 55 with Dylan Farish taking three wickets in fpour balls to finish the innings. Joe Harwood took 3-15 while J. Israel top-scored for Great Corby with 17.
