AllerdaleDistrictU14.Some of our leading Junior Cricketers took part in a series of District Matches during the half term holiday.

Teams representing Allerdale, Copeland and Carlisle played in a round robin format at both Under 12 and Under 14 and the games produced some superb individual performances with bat and ball.

The series of games got underway with a win for Carlisle U14 against Copeland, Ben Purdham scoring 32 and claiming 3 wickets for Carlisle.

Copeland U12's didn't fare much better against Allerdale who set 107 with Matthew Fowler top scoring on 27. Callum Dodd and Cameron McGuiness took 3 wickets apiece as Copeland's batting failed to get into gear.

However, Copeland put up a much stronger performance in their next games. Their under 12's batted out the overs in setting a total of 101 for 7 at Carlisle in which Bawden top scored with 29 and Wright finished unbeaten on 28. Dan Swann took 4 for 11 for the home team.

Carlisle ended up victorious by just three wickets and had James Spencer to thank for a terrific 53 which held their innings together.

Copeland Under 14's were very unlucky not to come out on top in a low scoring but fascinating game at Braithwaite. After winning the toss they put Allerdale in to bat on a wet wicket and they were soon in trouble at 11 for 3 and 17 for 5.

Ryan Clubley (17) and Ryan Todhunter (14) batted well to take the Allerdale total up to 63.

Copeland got of to a good start on a wicket that still offered the bowlers something. Whitelock scored a good 14 to add to his two wickets but good bowling from Allerdale, and in particular Andrew Shilto (3 for 3 in 7 overs) left  Copeland agonisingly short by 4 runs.

The low scoring game was in complete contrast to the game that had taken place 24 hours earlier at Carlisle. Allerdale, batting first, set a daunting 210-5, with Jack Mason (73) and Matthew Lowden (51) putting on 125 for the third wicket.

Carlisle were, for a long time, up with the pace as Tom Carlysle, Jack Walker and Martin Usher all made useful contributions. Another three wickets for Shilito and two for Matthew Hodgson allowed Allerdale to gradually get a grip of the game and ultimately end
up comfortable winners.
