Grainger and Smith strike for Gold in Cup PDF Print E-mail

Cockermouth Gold made progress in the County Junior League Cup for Under-15’s when they beat Workington at the Valentine Ground.

Alex Grainger (34) and Tom Smith (27) were the mainstays in Cockermouth’s 356 whilst Nick Wood (15) and Liam Ryan (14) scored best for Workington who made 268 in reply.

But Cockermouth Green could not make similar progress in the competition as they went down by 42 runs at home to Appleby.

The visitors made 304-5 led by Ryan Davison (37no) and Cockermouth responded with 262-6.

Wigton (314) beat Denton Holme (250) and Caldbeck (263) beat Egremont (242) while Whitehaven conceded their tie at Lanercost.

The result of the Keswick v Penrith Gold match is not available.

In the Under-13’s League Cup Whitehaven won at Stainton after posting 294. Josh Benson (26), Karl Henderson (16) and Leah. Rudd (16) did best with the bat.

Stainton replied with 219 and Tom Cash was the top scorer with 25.

Cockermouth Gold won their club derby with Cockermouth Green by 21 runs after Alex Holliday (24) and Ed Gate (22) had scored best in a total of 300. Lewis Irwin took 3-16 for Green,

Cockermouth Green replied with 279 as Gate took 2-14 for the Gold team.

Carlisle Green had a big win at Threlkeld as Dominic Wall (22) and William Bell (20) scored best in a total of 329. Threlkeld only managed 213 in reply with Abhay Nair (3-10) and Hamzah Dhalech (2-2) proving to be Carlisle’s most effective bowlers.

Wigton beat Cleator after batting first and reaching a useful 322. Rob Taylor (28), Luke Williams (18), and the Peile twins Jack (14) and Tom (14) were the main scorers. Andrew Poyner took three wickets for Cleator who made 288 in reply.

Anthony Armstrong (40) and Joe Riley (20) batted really well while Alex Wragg and Williams each took three wickets.

In a very tight game at Keswick the home side just edged out Penrith Green by two runs – 294 to 292.

Results aren’t available for - Egremont B v Penrith Gold;  Nunwick Black/Whitehaven Girls v Egremont A; Nunwick Gold v Appleby B.

Early results on Monday from the Under-11’s saw Wigton 399 beat Arthuret and Esk 194. Kieran Little (29) and Calum Dodd (3-1) were key performers for Wigton.

Carlisle Green scored 335 against Great Corby with Harry Grant (14) and Yousef Sahib (11) prominent.

Great Corby made 167 in reply with Dan Swan top-scoring on 17. The wickers were shared by Ben Davidson (4-4), Reuben Stables (3-5) and Bruce Spencer (2-0).

In a close game at Penrith the home club’s Green team made 261-7. Damien Hutchinson (10) top-scored and then Caldbeck made 252-5 in reply. Sean Merone made 12.

Workington scored 279-6 at Seascale with Zak Jones (21), Liam Armstrong (19) and Callum Sutton (15) among the runs.

Seascale responded with 197-7. Joe Graham top-scored on 13 as bowling honours went to Lewis Hull (2-11), Matthew Fowler (2-4) and Liam Irving( 2-1).

Cockermouth beat Workington Blue after batting first and scoring 266. David Houghton top-scored on 14. The Blue team scored 221 in reply with Mathew McGarry making 19.
