Rain intervenes but Keswick and Workington go through PDF Print E-mail

Rain affected two of the four Under-13’s County Cup games but Keswick and Workington did make progress in the competition.

Carlisle v Nunwick was abandoned because of the weather and will be replayed on June 4 while Cockermouth and Whitehaven, also abandoned because of rain, will try again on June 10 or 12.

In the games that were played Keswick were comfortable winners against Lanercost after bowling-out the home side for 27. Michael Clark took 4-5 and Jim Creighton had 3-0.

Keswick lost three wickets in compiling the runs they needed to make progress, and for Lanercost James Crabtree had 2-8.

Andrew Shillito (30ret) and Jake Daniel (20) lifted Workington to 87-3 in 17 overs and victory over Penrith Gold who made 84-6.

Glen Atkinson (25) and Ryan Martin (22) did well for Penrith while Matthew Lowden (3-20) and Shillito (2-4) were the most successful bowlers for Workington.

In the Under-13’s League rain also caused an early finish at Great Corby where Penrith Green had scored 105-7 when the downpour came.

Richard Sykes (17), Greg Hall (17) and Lewis Pamphillon (17) scored solidly for Penrith while Henry Berry (2-14) and Matthew McCullough (2-27) were the pick of the Great Corby bowlers.

Carlisle Blue had got to 27-2 at Appleby B when the rain caused the game to be abandoned.

Workington BlueThrelkeld made 56-5, with a vital contribution from Ben Sharp (30 ret), against Workington Blue for whom Mark Grainger took four wickets without conceding a run.

Earlier Workington Blue (pictured left) had reached 109-3 led by Edward Mullen (30 ret), Oliver Wilson (23no) and Jack Hunter (20).

No results are available from the games - Egremont B v Whitehaven Girls and Stainton v Nunwick Black.

It’s also the case of no result being available in the Under-15 League game - Arthuret & Esk v Caldbeck.

There was a high-scoring game at Edenside where Carlisle made 132-8 in response to Penrith Gold’s 155-4.

For Carlisle Gokel Nair made 30ret while their best bowler was Connor McLeod (2-13).

For Penrith Gold the bulk of the runs came from Jack Dulson (32 ret), Stephen Nicholson (30 ret) and Matthew McNaughton (31 ret).

Set to chase Workington Blue’s 118-3, Cockermouth Green had reached 103-7 at the close.

Sam Slinger (33ret) was the top scorer for the Sandair side while Matthew Lowden (2-10) and Grant Quayle (2-19) did best with the ball for Workington.

Daniel Rice (33ret) and Lowden (30ret) were the main batsmen for Workington with Alan Gamberini taking 2-18 for the hosts.

Keswick scored 77-4 to beat Whitehaven 75-7 and owed much to Olly Dunn, who made 30ret and Jordan Kewen (2-5) and Simon Grundy (2-4) who both bowled tidily.

Best for Whitehaven with the bat was Josh Benson (15no) while Chris Young took 2-17.

Lanercost beat Nunwick by 16 runs after posting 113-3. Ross Wilson (32) and Mike Armstrong 30 were the leading run-makers.

Nunwick were bowled-out for 97 and Mark Robson scored 30 of those. Jacob Lyall finished with impressive figures of 5-14 for Lanercost.

Penrith Green reached 111-3 at home to Denton Holme with Arran Pamphilon (31ret) and Callum Burton (28) the leading scorers. Ryan Holmes took 2-23 for Denton Holme who struggled to 75-9 in reply. Mathew Hetherington top-scored with 23 while Joe McKinley (2-8) and Liam Pickering (2-25) were the pick of the Penrith bowlers.

Seascale opened with 106-4 against Cleator but the visitors came back well to win with 110-5.

Adam Brown (33ret) and Owen Barrett (30ret) were the leading batsmen for Seascale with R Leeson taking 2-18 for Cleator.
J Moore made 33ret in Cleator’s response with Andrew Mellen taking 3-18 for Seascale.

Wigton (91-7) beat Appleby (86-5) in another tightly contested game. M Holliday (31ret) did best with the bat for Wigton as M Winder (3-18) was the most successful Appleby bowler. C  Kirkpatrick top-scored with 28 for Appleby while C Ray took (3-12) for the winners.

In another tight game at the Valentine Ground Workington (95-4) beat Cockermouth Gold (87-9). Nick Wood (32ret) and Jonny Irving (30ret) were the mainstays for Workington while James Evans (30ret) top-scored for Cockermouth.

Irving (3-10), Jack Whinn (2-17), Alex McGeen (2-18) and Wood (1-0) shared the wickets for Workington.
