Former Cockermouth cricketer Ben Stokes has been included in the England Under-19’s squad for the tour to Bangladesh next month.

Stokes, 18, is one of the bright young talents at Durham who have just retained their County Championship title.

He is he only player from the county in the 16-strong squad and selection for the tour has put him in pole position for a place in the England World Cup squad.

For when he players return from Bangladesh they will be undergoing skill and conditioning work ahead of the World Cup which is being staged in January.

The party will arrive in Bangladesh on October 8 and don’t leave for home until November 5 by which time they will have played two practice games, a four-day Test and seven one day internationals against the Bangladesh Under-19’s.

It will be a tough tour as this summer Bangladesh Under-19’s toured England and won the one day series 2-1 after losing the two-match Test series 0-1.

Stokes played in one of those Test matches and made 72 and 17 not out for a highly satisfactory Test debut.

Although essentially an all-rounder New Zealand-born Stokes has not been bowling regularly for a while because of a stress reaction but has been back in action this month.
