Wigton gain ten wicket win in County Cup PDF Print E-mail

Keswick had to concede the County Cup-tie for Under-15’s when they were unable to field a side to travel to Cockermouth.

In the same competition Wigton were ten wicket winners over Whitehaven as Nick Watt scored an unbeaten 47 in a winning reply of 70-0. Whitehaven had been restricted to 66-6 with Chris Young (31) and Cameron Connor (21) doing best.

Appleby were almost as convincing in their victory at Penrith Green where they won by nine wickets.

After bowling-out the Penrith side for 74 Jordan Nicholson (44no) helped steer Appleby to victory on 75-1.

Penrith Gold did better in their Cup-tie at Carlisle, winning by 77 runs after posting 187-7. N. Birtle (51ret), J. Dulson (50ret) and R. Wyatt (33) were the main contributors.

Carlisle responded with 110-4 which owed much to Zach Hill’s 42.

In the Under-15’s League Nunwick beat Arthuret and Esk by 63 runs.

Ross Collins and Tim Clasper both scored 31 for Nunwick in a total of 136-5 Arthuret and Esk made 72-6 in reply with W Field top-scoring on 25.

Seascale beat Cockermouth Gold by five wickets after the Sandair side had struggled to 84-8. (A. Grainger (33ret) and H. Rigby (32ret) were the leading batsmen for Cockermouth with A. Mellen taking 3-26 and M. Van-Mourik chipping in with 2-19 for Seascale.

Although Grainger took 3-7 an innings of 30ret from A. Brown was crucial in Seascale’s winning reply of 85-5.

Cockermouth Greens had better luck at Egremont where they won by four wickets after the home side had made 85-7. D. Brennan top-scored with (31ret) while S. Slinger (3-16) and J. Denham (2-13) were the leading Cockermouth bowlers.

The Greens responded with 86-6 led by J. Mason (34 ret) and A. Carruthers (30 ret). D. Carter (3-15) and R. Watson (2-12) were the leading Egremont bowlers.

In an inter club clash Workington beat Workington Blue by 11 runs. The Blues made 94-7 led by J. Irving (25) and Dan Rice (17) against some tidy bowling from A. McGeen (2-4) and S. Simpson (2-17).

Earlier Workington had reached 105-7 with N. Wood (30ret) and L. Ryan (27) doing best with the bat. O. Wilcock (2-4) and J. Clubley (2-15) were the most successful bowlers for the Blues.

Appleby A were bowled-out for 65 in the Under-13’s League by Penrith Gold. Alistair Craig (3-6) and Matthew Bradley (2-5) were the main destroyers.

Earlier the Gold team had made188-3 with solid contributions throughout the order from Craig (33 ret), Ross Jackson (33 ret), Jordan Cowperthwaite (32 ret), Scott Cameron (30 ret) and George Burne (23).

Unfortunately for Carlisle Blue v Nunwick Black no result is available.

Cleator made 103-7 against Whitehaven with Callum Birdsall (32 ret) and Luke Close (15) among the ruins and Leah Rudd taking 2-6 for Whitehaven.

In reply Whitehaven got to 72-8 with T. Sarrington (26) and Rudd (16) doing best with the bat.  Birdsall (2-6), Reece Hughes (2-11) and Nathan Dunne (2-5) were the leading wicket-takers for Cleator.

Cockermouth Green were among the runs against Threlkeld, reaching168-6 led by D. Saunderson (31 ret), Ed Gate (31 ret) and Seth Fletcher (33 ret). Ben Sharpe bowled well to take 4 -17 for Threlkeld. Sharpe also did well with the bat, making 30ret in a reply of 61-8.

Egremont B were unable to get a team to play Workington Blue (U12) and conceded.

In a low-scoring game Great Corby beat Stainton by eight wickets. Stainton were restricted to 47-9 with Tom Bray (11) the only batsman in double figures.

Rhys Jones (2-6) and Mike Slack (2-10) were the main wicket-takers for Great Corby who replied with 49-2. Ben Purdham (16) and Scott Fisher (13no) were prominent.

By contrast plenty of runs at Keswick where the home side lost despite making 130-4 with Bland (31no), J. Loan (32no) and R. Brown (32no). M. Smith took 3-19 for opponents Cockermouth Gold.

Batting first the Gold had made 149-8 with M. Gates (26) and J. Mason (23) doing best with the bat. J. Creighton took 2-16 for Keswick.

Carlisle Green beat Nunwick Gold after posting 147-3. J Walker (35ret), T Carlyle (30ret) and D. Wall (32ret) were the leading run-makers.

Nunwick Gold were bowled-out for 111 despite a gritty 30ret from R. Mounsey.

Penrith Green just beat Appleby B in a thrilling finish after being bowled-out for 103. J McNaughton top-scored with 28 while S. Morland (3-25) and J. Davidson (3-23) were the most successful bowlers for Appleby B.

In reply Appleby B finished agonisingly close on 100-6 led by Morland (23) and Davidson (20).

Wigton were comfortable winners over Lanercost after scoring 156-2. Among the runs were J. Peile (32ret), D. Watters (31ret) and L. Jackman (32ret).

Lanercost were 82-5 at the close with R Spencer top-scoring on 25 and Peile taking 2-19.

Workington were comfortable winners over Egremont A after they had amassed 123-2. Matthew Lowden (31ret), Jake Daniel (30ret) and Andrew Ireland (22no) were the key batsmen and then Ryan Clubley took 3-0 and Andrew Shillito 2-8 as Egremont A were bowled out for 43.
