Cockermouth Academicals won the top of the table battle in Division Two of the Kirkland Carpets and Beds Midweek League.

They beat Baggrow seconds by 71 runs and the two sides are now locked together on 15 points at the top of the table – although crucially the Academicals have a game in hand.

Graham Sparke (73), Peter French (58) and Keith Lockwood (26no) helped the Cockermouth side reach 195-2.

Matt Evans (27) and Danny Moffat (21) led the Baggrow response but they hadn’t much support as the seconds were bowled-out for 124.

Johnny Allport (2-11), Luke Heap (2-13), Shakir Rajput (2-25) and Ben Morgan (2-29) shared the wickets for the Accies.

West Cumbria Law Society are in third place after a comfortable victory over Broughton who remain joint bottom without a point.

The Lawyers made 168-6 led by Paul States (45), Gary Stewardson (33) and John Burns (32) while in response Broughton could only manage 95-5.

Mark Hodgson (27), Dave Smith (24) and John Ritson (24) scored best for Broughton.

The game between Allonby and Seascale Juniors has been rearranged for August 5th.

In Division One leaders Winscale Club, Seascale beat Cockermouth Colts by 13 runs.

Batting first the Seascale side made 152-6 with Daniel Lee (31 ret), Phil Knott (30 ret), Steve Brown Snr (30 ret), Lee Fleet (21) and Pete Rooney (21no) all among the runs.

Steve Chambers took 2-19 for the Colts who made 139-7. Ryan Carruthers (32 ret), Alex Grainger (23) and Virun Misra (20) did well with the bat.

Isel lost to Egremont by seven wickets after posting 95-6. Steve Balmforth (34) and John Gate (21) were the main contributors as John Coleman took 2-29 for the Copeland side.

Egremont reached 98-3 comfortably to record the win as Peter Thompson (53no) and James Hocking (30 ret) did the bulk of the scoring. Mark Brown took 2-12 for Isel.

The Royal George beat BCMS by seven wickets after dismissing the Cattlemen for 91.

Steven Miller (34 ret) and Mike Yeoman (20) scored best for BCMS as Andrew Dodds (4-1) and Chris Simons (2-12) did most of the damage.

In Royal George’s winning reply of 92-3 Brian Thompson scored 32 retired.

Sandwith Roofing and Braithwaite Colts had a good battle before the Workington side triumphed by eight runs.

Batting first the Roofers reached 92-9, boosted by Kristian Moffat (30 ret) with Chris Hodgson (3-20) the main wicket-taker for the Colts.

In reply Braithwaite Colts made 84-9 with Phil Knight top-scoring on 30 ret. Neil Talbot (3-17) and Moffat (2-11) were the most successful bowlers.
