Week twelve of the WACCA season saw a combination of the weather and under-strength teams produce some significant shifts in power in Division Two.

The nine men of Baggrow 2 amassed 129-6 built around Tom Smith (28) and Farhan Zahid (54no). In reply Whitehaven Colts were held to 124-7 with Jonathan Stewart (28no) and Robbie Fisher (25) the leading batsmen. Zarfran Zahid picked-up 2-26 while Ed Gate took 2-21.

The WCLS could only field 8 men at home to Workington Juniors who made 93-5 with Matthew Lowden making 22 and Darren Wood retiring on 30 after Rob Allen had taken 3-15.

The lack of numbers showed when they were held to 81-5 after openers Nick Bulman (26) and David Hodgson (32) had got them away well. They were dismissed by Jack Williamson (3-15) and then Matt Gorley, with figures of 3-2-1-2 sealed the win to put the Juniors to the top of the table.

The seven men of Maryport were dismissed for 93 by Allonby, with Alan Charters (26) and  Graham Nicholson (24) doing the bulk of the run-getting. Richard Burrough (2-2) and Lee Ferris (2-5) were the most successful bowlers.

Allonby had little trouble reaching 95-2 thanks to Ben Kyte’s 45 not out with Gary Hay (24) providing good support.

In a game played totally in the rain Distington posted 139-3 with significant contributions from Paul Richardson (30), Stephen Seeds (22) and a six-filled innings from Stephen Richardson of 42 not out.

Isel were skittled for just 52 with all five Distington bowlers taking two wickets each - Adam Chambers for 9, Darren Lynch for 6, Charlie Gallacher for 19, Michael Wilson for 13 and Mark Chambers without cost.

Broughton visited Seascale Juniors & enjoyed the batting conditions as they ran up 121, with veterans Mark Steadman (23) and Ray Dobie (22) the leading lights. Billy Grant had 2-12 and Chris Knott took 2-15 before Andy Lee 3-14 mopped-up the tail.

Apart from Steve Brown junior (28) the home batting failed as they were all out for 77. Andy Skelton (3-18), Malcolm Pattinson (2-9) and Gary Graham (2-2) shared the wickets.

However in Division 1 it was business as usual. Defending champions Sandwith Roofing made the most of the clash versus the eight-man BCMS team and batting first made 140-5.

The top order of John Hodgson (42), Kristian Moffat (35 ret) and Simon Beare (30 ret) all cashed in but BCMS were dismissed for 89 as only Wayne Nixon (29) and Mike Yeoman (27) made notable contributions.  Brain Moore’s efforts were rewarded with 3-18.

Graham Cook made 27 out of the Royal George’s 101-6, with opposition captain Steve Brown senior again the leading wicket taker, this time with 3-16.

Windscale Club, Seascale romped to 103-4 with Robin Sparshott (31 ret), Mark Farries (24) and Lee Fleet (22no) to the fore.

Braithwaite v Cockermouth Academicals was rained off, as was the Border Leisure fixture between WCC Lads & Whitehaven Colts.

Baggrow 2 were dismissed for 98 with Neil Irving claiming 2-15 after Zarfran Zahid (26 ret) and Ed Gate (24) had done the early work. Workington Dads only made 79, anchored by Callum Moffat’s 30 retired. Farhan Zahid was the leading bowler with 2-4.
