Midweek cricket in west Cumbria focused on three main competitions this week.
There were two games in the Kirkland Carpets and Beds League; one match went ahead in the Sandwith Roofing Cup and two more in the Crisp and Rowell Shield.
In the League, a Division One game went the way of Windscale Club, Seascale as they enjoyed a six-wicket success against Braithwaite Colts.
Harry Rigby (26) held the Colts innings together as they made 122-7 with Pete Rooney (2-20) and Daniel Lee (2-17) claiming four of the wickets between them.
The Seascale side always looked comfortable as it proved with Adam Brown (31ret), Robin Sparshott (30ret) and Lee Fleet (26no) firing them home.
In Division Two Seascale Juniors weren’t able to make it a village double as they went down by 14 runs against Baggrow seconds.
Jason Pyke (35 ret), Andrew Smith (30 ret) and Fian Clark (25no) helped Baggrow reach 2 151-7. Daniel Yetts was the most successful, if expensive, Seascale bowler with 2-40.
The Seascale Juniors were bowled-out for 137 after good efforts from Daniel Lee (32 ret), Stuart Dickinson (31 ret) and Clayton Lee (30 ret). Pyke completed a good game for Baggrow by taking 2-9.
In the Sandwith Roofing Cup the quarter final tie between Sandwith Roofing and BCMS will have to be re-arranged as the ground was unavailable.
Another quarter final was settled without a ball being bowled as Distington beat Allonby by default.
Sandwith Roofing or BCMS will play Distington in the semi-final on June 2 at Gillfoot Park, Egremont.
The other semi-final was played during the week at the Institute Ground, Braithwaite where Broughton beat Cockermouth Academicals by 34 runs.
Leading the way in a Broughton innings of 142-6 were Gary Swanston (25ret), Mark Steadman (22ret) and Dave Smith (22ret).
The Academicals made 108-8 in reply as Graham Sparke (20 ret) and Hugh Carter (20 ret) did their bit but Swanston (2-5) and Steadman (2-6) bowled tidily to make sure Broughton had plenty in hand.
In the Crisp and Rowell Shield quarter final Egremont beat Maryport by default.
But a quarter final was settled on the pitch with Cockermouth Colts beating Royal George by four wickets.
Ryan Carruthers, Dave Farrell and Gary Hay all made 20 retired in a winning response from the Colts of 106-6.
Earlier the Royal George had made 105-8 led by that reliable pairing of Neil Carruthers (23 ret) and Barrie Warbrick (20 ret).
The semi-final between Egremont and Cockermouth Colts will be played on June 9 at Sandair, Cockermouth.
One semi-final has already been played in which WCLS beat Isel by 29 runs at Gosforth.
The Lawyers made 144-8 with plenty of solid contributions from Gary Stewardson (25 ret), Phil Jennings (25 ret), Rob Allen (21 ret), John Perkins (20 ret) and Nick Bulman (20 ret). Gareth Kelton took 2-7 for Isel.
Isel managed only 115-9 in reply with Steve Balmforth (21 ret) and James Gate (20 ret) doing best with the bat. Mike Rowell (2-7) and Perkins (2-16) did best with the ball for the Lawyers.
