Cockermouth Academicals unbeaten run ended in spectacular fashion as they were dismissed for 112 by Isel.
League secretary John McGuffie turned back the hands of time by claiming his second 5-8 (the last being in 1994!).
He was prevented from improving his best as he had two balls unused against the ten- man opposition. He was aided by Terry Johnstone with 2-12.
Earlier Accies openers Ryan Carruthers (33) and Johnny Allport (30) both retired to set them up for a much bigger total.
James Gate with 33 retired took his side to 92-3 but James Simmonds (3-15) bowled the final over and reduced Isel to 112-8 with two balls to spare.
Like McGuffie earlier he didn’t complete a hat-trick, but a scrambled run from the last saw Isel scrape home.
The clash of the titans didn’t live up to its billing as Braithwaite eased to a seven wicket victory over Sandwith Roofing.
The Roofers, batting first, were dismissed for 81 as only Phil Smart retired with 35, thanks in large part to Gilbert Pyke’s 4-9, Danny Saunderson picked up 2-5.
Andy Rigby and Chris Hodgson both made 30 retired as the home side sauntered to 82-3.
Another low scoring contest occurred at Broughton where Baggrow 2 were dismissed for 80 as Tom Smith (31 retired) and Rory McGreavey (22 not out) made the only scores of note as Malcolm Pattinson picked up 3-3. Broughton had little trouble reaching 84-3.
The scores at Dovenby were even lower as an under-manned Maryport side only made 44. It was nearly enough as Allonby struggled themselves to reach 45-6.
Mike Holyoake (4-5) supported by Micky Ash (2-22) and Ben Kyte (2-5) were the most successful bowlers for Allonby.
But they themselves were put under pressure by Mark Cavanagh (2-15) and Chris Dawes (3-10) and were indebted to the sole batsman to pass 20 on the night; Kyle Hillier (29), but they lost no more wickets and reached 45 to record their first win in the competition.
There were plenty of runs at Seascale as Distington were dismissed for 145 by Andy Lee (3-8) and Matthew Jackson (3-2) after the Richardson brothers Paul (34 retired) and Steven (29) along with Adam Chambers (33 retired) combined well.
Seascale Juniors reached 146-7 thanks to Andrew Knott’s 35 and Daniel Lee’s 30 – both retired.
BCMS’s batsmen could not scale the heights of last week, though 115-7 built around Mark McCarron’s 30 retired with support from Gary Stewardson and Willie Richardson (both with 28) was defendable.
Paul States was the pick of the Lawyers bowlers with 2-17 but BCMS bowlers bounced back from last week’s drubbing to dismiss the Lawyers for 93. Only John Burns retired on 31 and Richie Knowles and Gary Ireland both returned identical analysis’ of 3-5.
Royal George remained unbeaten. They totalled 112-4 thanks to solid contributions from Neil Carruthers (25), Ian Studholme (25), Andrew Dodds (26no) and John Chisnall (23no). Arran Sullivan claimed 2-18.
In reply Whitehaven Colts were held to 83-6, with extras (20) top scoring. Steve O’Hagan (2-11) and Chisnall (2-9) shone with he ball.
Windscale Club, Seascale turned next week’s clash with Royal George into a virtual semi final by racking up 156. Paul Knott (30 ret), Lee Fleet (32 ret) and Pete Rooney (31 ret) enjoyed the conditions.
Paul Bennett (2-28) and Nathan Wood (2-16) were the best of the Workington bowlers.
Workington Juniors were dismissed for a creditable 126 thanks to Wood (30 ret) and Bennett (31 ret) as Steve Brown senior (2-16) and young Harvey Browning (2-5) combined effectively.
Broughton were dismissed by Royal George for 72 in the Crisp and Rowell Shield semi-final. Gary Graham (25 ret) top-scored against Ian Studholme (2-9) and then Barrie Warbrick (3-0) who mopped up.
Three Broughton bowlers claimed two wickets each - Graham Poole for 12, Andy Skelton for 2 and Dave Smith for 8 as a nervous Royal George scraped into the final without an individual score of note.
The final is now to be held at Cleator on June 21st
