The magical number of 400 runs was achieved in the DDC match at the Valentine Ground between BCMS and Windscale Club, Seascale.
The visitors, batting first, hit a mammoth 223-7 with six retirements - Lee Fleet (30), Gary Bedford (33), Paul Knott (31), Simon Beattie (30), Steve Brown junior (30) and Pete Rooney (30). Adam Brown (26) was the only genuine wicket to fall.
In reply, with only three retirements: Gary Stewardson (30), Andrew Ireland (35) and father Gary Ireland (31), BCMS made 177-8 as Mike Yeoman (24) joined in the run spree. Steve Brown senior (2-24) recorded the best figures of the night.
Seascale Juniors were dismissed for 92 by the Law Society as Andrew Knott (31 ret) and Daniel Lee (32 ret) did the bulk of the scoring.
Chris Bowness (3-14), Rob Allen (2-11) and Phil Jennings (2-13) shared the wickets before Nick Bulman’s 35 retired eased the Lawyers to 93-6 despite the efforts of Daniel Lee (2-11).
The Royal George piled up 173-7 against Workington Juniors, with retirements from Neil Carruthers (31), Peter Thompson (33), Andrew Davidson (31) and Damien Rice (24no) and David Chisnall (21no) also contributing.
Matt Gorley claimed 2-17 and then made 34 retired in response, but the only assistance came from Nathan Wood (20). Ian Studholme picked up 3-20 in the Juniors’ total of 114.
The first match lost to the weather had Distington on 78-4. Mark Chambers had made 25 and Mike Baker had taken 2-17 when the weather closed in against Whitehaven Colts.
In the northern side of the draw Sandwith Roofing dismissed Broughton for 81 with Phil Armstrong (3-13) and Russ Herring (2-10) capitalising on David Pearce’s (2-11) early work. John Hodgson (30 ret) eased the visitors to 82-4 and a comfortable victory.
Isel visited the new look Dovenby Hall and inserted visitors Allonby who thanks to three retirements: Kelvin Clark (32), Adam Johnson (30) and Anthony Andrews (31) ran up 131-8.
Isel skipper James Gate continued his fine start with the ball with 2-13 and the their top three: John Gate (24), Alan Brown (30 ret) and James Gate (30 ret) virtually saw the visitors home by themselves, a six wicket win was achieved when they reached 135-4 with 14 balls to spare.
Cockermouth Academicals preserved their unbeaten streak with a 35 run win at Maryport.
Batting first the Carruthers brothers Ryan (34) and Angus (32) both retired, and aided by 30 retired from Graham Sparke totalled 141-6. Neil Bewley took 2-26 for the home side.
Graeme Nicholson, with 30 retired got Maryport off to a fine start only for Ryan Carruthers (2-14), Shakir Rajput (2-23) and Luke Neesham (2-29) to combine to dismiss them for 105.
The only home team to win was Braithwaite who crushed Baggrow 2. After being inserted by their eight-strong opposition they were dismissed for 172.
Danny Saunderson (30), Jason Pyke (30) and Chris Hodgson (33) all retired while Jacob Emmett (4-25) an skipper Tom Smith (2-9) shared the wickets. The visitors were rolled over for 45.
Two Crisp and Rowell Shield matches were also played and in the quarter final Royal George made 108-7 against Workington Juniors.
Ian Studholme (23 ret) and Barrie Warbrick (20 ret) did best with the bat, while Jack Cooper picked up 2-12. In reply only Paul Bennett (20) got amongst the runs as Workington Juniors’ innings closed at 83-6.
WCLS scraped into the final. Whitehaven Colts reached 102 largely thanks to retirement scores from Robbie Fisher (22) and Mike Bean (20) while David Hodgson’s two overs brought him 3-8.
Paul States (22 ret) and Phil Jennings (20 ret) almost saw the Lawyers home, but Fisher (2-12) and Bean (2-6) made the Lawyers earn a two-wicket victory at 103-8.
The final on Monday at Cleator will be between WCLS and the winner of the Royal George v Broughton tie.
The other match last week saw the President’s side reach 128 as Graham Tyson (28 ret), Joe Sandwith (26 ret), Charlie Gallacher (26 ret) and Liam Hazzard (22) repaired the early damage done by Phil Hearn (3-23).
In reply the Secretaries team were dismissed for 110 as only Phil Smart (28) and Brian Moore (27) managed to retire. Tyson (2-18) and Sandwith (2-17) completed impressive all round matches
