Baggrow seconds went without a win in the whole of the West Allerdale and Copeland Cricket Association season last year.
But second week into the new campaign they have got off the mark with a seven- wicket success against Distington.
Ian Butler made 20 in the Distington total of 100-7 with Thomas Moffat taking 2-22.
Then Baggrow responded really well as Matt Evans (33no) and veteran Peter Turner (22) got them through to 101-3. Butler took 2-15.
That was their first match of the season in Division Two of the Kirkland Carpets and Bed Centre-sponsored League as they were not involved in the opening week’s round of matches.
Week one in fact was devoted to the Sandwith Roofing Cup when Cockermouth Academicals were the top scorers in the quarter finals.
They beat Isel by 30 runs after reaching 116-9 led by Paul Heap (24 ret) Graham Sparke (21 ret) and Hugh Carter (20 ret). John Gate took 3-5 for Isel who could manage only 86-7 in reply.
Mark Brown (25 ret) top-scored while Shakir Rajput took 3-8 for the Academicals.
In their quarter final Broughton beat the West Cumberland Law Society despite being bowled-out for 76.
Gary Swanston (20 ret) and Mark Steadman (23 ret) held them together as Michael Rowell took 3-5 but then Mark Hodgson took 2-10 and Malcolm Pattinson 2-3 as the Lawyers were dismissed for 41.
At an earlier stage of the competition the sponsors of the competition, Sandwith Roofing beat Egremont by five wickets.
Egremont only managed 67 led by James Hocking (20 ret) and Dan Price (22 ret) with Mike McDermott taking 3-9 for Sandwith Roofing who made 68-5 to go through. Lewis Stainton took 2-11 for Egremont.
The tightest contest saw BCMS beat Maryport by just two runs after posting 95-7. Steven Bragg (23 ret) and Andrew Ireland (20 ret) were the mainstays.
In a desperately close finish Maryport got to 93-7 with Mark Shepherd (22 ret) top-scoring.
Distington beat Royal George in another good contest in which both sides lost eight wickets.
The pub side made 103-8 as Barrie Warbrick (22 ret), Willie Yeoman (22 ret) and Jonty Easthope (20 ret) did most of the scoring.
Distington got to 106-8 in a thrilling finish led by Alan Chambers (19 ret) and Andy Kirk (23 ret) with Andrew Dodds taking 2-10 for the Royal George.
The finish between Cockermouth Colts and Allonby was even tighter. After the Colts had been bowled-out for 95 Allonby edged over the finishing line at 97-9.
For the Colts Virun Misra (20 ret) and Jamie Fisher (20 ret) did the bulk of the scoring while Rob Graham took 2-6 for Allonby.
John Jenkinson (22 ret) and Adam Johnson (20 ret) were the main scorers for Allonby while Steven Holmes took 2-6 for the Colts.
The quarter finals to be played are: Sandwith Roofing v BCMS and Distington v Allonby while the semi-final between Cockermouth Academicals and Broughton will be played on Monday, May 12 at the Institute Ground, Braithwaite.
The Crisp and Rowell Shield quarter finals are Egremont v Maryport and Royal George v Cockermouth Colts
The first semi final sees WCLS take on Isel at Wrigley Park, Gosforth on Monday, May 12.
Week Two was spoiled by rain as the Division One games – Cockermouth Colts v Braithwaite Colts; Isel v BCMS and Sandwith R v Egremont were all abandoned.
One game was played in which Windscale Club, Seascale lost to the Royal george by six wickets.
The Seascale side made 92-7 led by Paul Knott (30 ret) while the Royal George responded with 93-4. Andrew Dodds (30 ret) and Neil Carruthers (25) were prominent in Royal George’s winning reply.
In Division Two Seascale Juniors beat the Law Society by 26 runs after making 76-4 in which Daniel Lee (21) and Stuart Dickinson (27 no) were the main participants. Tim Perkins took 2-18 for WCLS who were bowled-out for 50.
Ollie Burns (2-11) and Matthew Jackson (2-5) were the main wicket-takers.
Broughton could field only six men against Cockermouth Academicals and were despatched for 24 as Shakir Rajput took 3-2. The Academicals went on to win by ten wickets.
