Dunn threatens changes at Burscough PDF Print E-mail

Joey DunnJOEY Dunn has indicated that their may be wholesale changes to his Burscough squad throughout the season - starting this week.

After an excellent start to the 2008/09 Blue Square North campaign, the Linnets have struggled in recent weeks, picking up only one point from the last nine and conceding 10 goals in the process.

On Monday they lost 4-1 at Borough Park and looked decidledly fragile as Workington could have easily doubled their winning tally.

In an attempt to stop the rot, Dunn (pictured) has told his local paper the Ormskirk Advertiser that up to four players could be added to the squad in time for the game at home to Solihull Moors on Saturday.

The game at Victoria Park is the first of three fixtures that the Burscough boss has earmarked as matches where three points are a must.

He told interviewer Philip Kirkbride: “We need experience and to build on quality - if I’m honest I’m looking to bring in players all over the pitch. I am also mindful of the fact that we may have a completely different team by the end of the season - I’m not scare mongering, it’s just the nature of football.

“Having to play against Workington on Monday with players like Moogan, Olsen and Smart all struggling really brought into the focus what it’s like having a small squad with limited quality. We will be bringing in three or four players this week.

“I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be going into the next three games against Solihull, Vauxhall and Hucknall, at this stage of the season, thinking we’ve got to win. We look at these games and these sides and think we should win, but it will be the same with the other teams who will be looking at Burscough thinking we are prone to conceding goals.

“Two wins paints a completely different picture, we could have 11 points by next Thursday.”

Monday’s 4-1 defeat at Workington was a “bitter pill” to swallow for Dunn after the spirited display in the 0-0 with Farsley Celtic.

That draw provided the kind of response the boss was looking for following the 6-2 hammering at Tamworth seven days earlier, but it wasn’t backed up in Cumbria.

Dunn said: “I most certainly got the response I was looking for on Saturday, it’s just a shame I didn’t get it on Monday.

“We had chances to win against Farsley but didn’t take them and the Workington result really brought home that we’ve got to win when we get the opportunity - it was a bad day at the office and we looked punch drunk.

“When you are winning and playing well it’s not so bad, but when you are playing badly and not winning, you can’t see where the next win is coming from.

“I can’t gloss over it and would be a fool to do so, but it is a good indicator of where we are and what we need to do.”

Burscough have injury worries over a number of players including Kyle Armstrong (ankle), Michael Grogan (dead leg), James Olsen (stiff back), Brian Moogan (calf), Matty Parry (groin) and John Cass (hernia).

They also had Sean Clancy sent-off after 24 minutes against the Reds.
