Chris HiltonAn air and land search is being carried-out in the French Alps to look for the secretary of the Hyde United Supporters Club who has been missing for almost two weeks.

Christopher Hilton, 33, (pictured) had watched some of the later stages of the Tour de France near Grenoble with his parents before he disappeared.

He had told them he was going for a walk in the mountains near Le Bourg-d'Oisans, a town in the Ecrins area of the Alps but has not been seen or heard from since.

Several desperate calls to his mobile phone have gone unanswered.

Mr Hilton, who works at Littlemoss High School, Droylsden as a science teacher is from Stalybridge and as well as being secretary of the Hyde United Supporters' Club is the team photographer.

The club thought it unusual it had not heard from him with the start of the new season approaching and only discovered he was missing after playing a local friendly match.

Tony Beard, director of football, said: "The club is shocked and we just hope he turns up safe and well. Chris is very popular, respected and a well-liked volunteer at the club.

"He is very knowledgeable about football and well known in the non-league football scene.

“Chris is also a popular teacher who does a lot both inside and outside of school".
