WORKINGTON could be the last team to play a Blue Square North fixture at King’s Lynn’s Walks Stadium.
The Linnets have been threatened with expulsion from the Conference over ground grading issues.
The club has just 14 days to launch an appeal against demotion after failing to meet Conference deadlines on remedial work to the council-owned stadium.
Linnets chairman Ken Bobbins has revealed that the Borough Council has agreed to carry out an estimated £250,000 upgrade ahead of next season's league kick-off but this has been rejected by Conference officials.
As it stands, Saturday's Blue Square North game at Vauxhall Motors will be Lynn's last in the division.
If unsuccessful with their appeal, Lynn will be demoted to the UniBond Premier Division, which would have a huge potential financial impact on the club's playing squad and on-going attempts to attract potential investment.
The news of King’s Lynn predicament came out of the blue as there had been no indication when Workington played there on Saturday and won 3-1.
The rumour-mill has been working overtime, however, on the number of clubs who supposedly had asked to be relegated from Blue Square North because they could not afford to stay at that level.
So far none of those rumours have been substantiated but thye likes of Burscough and Hyde will be sweating on the King’s Lynn outcome as it could offer them a lifeline to stay at their current level.
As things tabnd now Hyde, Burscough and Hucknall Town will be relegated with champions Tamworth going up with either Gateshead, Southport, AFC Telford or Alfreton.
