Southport have moved quickly to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of prolific goalscorer Chris Simm from Hyde Utd for an undisclosed sum.
Simm has proven himself as one of the hottest strikers around the non-league circuit with 36 goals which have come from 44 starts and 29 as a substitute during his two seasons at Ewen Fields.
Hyde are in deep financial trouble and hopes that they may be saved from relegation because of King's Lynn's anticiapted demotion, have foundered on a possible winding-up order.
Southport, on the other hand, are desperate to make amends for missing-out on promotion this time round after losing to eventual winners Gateshead in the play-off semi-final.
