Nathan Arnold HydGAINSBOROUGH Trinity, who host Workington on Tuesday night, conceded two penalties in their Blue Square North opener at Vauxhall.

But despite going 2-0 behind, as Alan Griffiths scored twice from the penalty spot in either half, Trinity scored twice themselves to level-up.

Goals from experienced striker Luke Beckett after 63 minutes and new recruit Wes Parker in the very last minute earned Trinity their point.

Reds are on the road from 2pm on Tuesday, starting he long journey from Borough Park – and they face another trek on Saturday to Stafford.

They were beaten 1-0 at Hyde in their opening game when ex-Mansfield midfielder Nathan Arnold (pictured alongside), who turned down a six-month contract with Grimsby to join the Ewen Fields outfit, marked his debut with the only goal of the game.

Corby Town got off to the best possible start thanks to their splendid 3-0 victory over Harrogate Town as John Turner, Steve Towers and Leon Mettam grabbed the goals or the newcomers.

Alfreton Town are the tip of Getnoticedonline.co.uk to challenge strongly for the title and they started impressively with a 3-0 win at Farsley Celtic.

Richard Pell put the visitors into the lead on 40 minutes before second-half strikes from Liam Hearn and former Hinckley full-back Dominic Roma made sure of the points.

Stalybridge Celtic always seem to start well before fading and they certainly got off he mark impressively, winning 4-1 at Redditch.
A Matty Barlow double, with a goal in each half, as well as a goal from Dave Hankin and an own goal from Lucan Spittle made sure that the visitors went home healthy victors.

Redditch manager Gary Whild hinted he was already looking to bring in new players as afterwards he said his young side would benefit from the addition of an older head or two.

"We have got a lot of youngsters who are enthusiastic but sometimes they need help from experienced players.

"The ones we have got here didn't give them that help so we shall see what Tuesday brings,” he said.

Hankin fired the visitors in front after 21 minutes with Mattie Barlow doubling the advantage seven minutes later.

The Reds' problems were further compounded in first-half stoppage time when centre-half Lucan Spittle put through his own goal.

Whild's side did give themselves a chance on 69 minutes when Jack Byrne pulled a goal back but the issue was put beyond doubt when Barlow netted his second of the game 16 minutes from time.

Whild felt the result was a rude awakening for some members of his new-look squad and made it very clear to the players that he would be expecting a much-improved showing on Tuesday when they head to Ilkeston Town.

In the game of the day, Southport claimed the three points in a five-goal thriller with Gloucester.

Mike Symons put Gloucester into the lead after just five minutes, but a three-goal blitz from the home side thanks to Matty McGinn, Earl Davis and Ciaran Kilheeney made sure of the points, despite a late scare when the visitors made it 3-2 through Sam Ellis.

Big-spending Fleetwood Town won heir opener 2-1 at Solihull after going two clear by half-time. Ex-Barrow striker Nick Rogan (29) and midfield playmaker Jamie Milligan (38) gave them the two goal cushion.

But Fleetwood were given a scare when Junior English scored for the Moors after 62 minutes, but there were no further goals in front of the second lowest crowd of the opening day – 279.

The lowest crowd watched Vauxhall draw with Gainsborough (260) while the biggest witnessed another draw – 1,847 at AFC Telford for the 1-1 against Blyth Spartans.

Robbie Dale put the visitors ahead on three minutes and new signing Steve Torpey levelled after 39 minutes.

Two newcomers shared the spoils in another 1-1 draw. Eastwood Town, up from below and Northwich down from Blue Square Premier were watched by a crowd of 68.

Danny Holland, a name familiar to Reds fans and defenders from his time at Matlock and Harrogate, scored for Eastwood with ex-Carlisle defender Simon Grand levelling the scores for Northwich on 82 minutes.
