HOLDERS Workington Reds have been drawn at home to Greystoke in the third round of the Cumberland County Senior Cup.
The ties are due to be played on Saturday, November 28 but Reds will be given the opportunity to host the tie on a mid-week date.
Penrith, who were beaten by Reds in last season’s final, also join the current competition for the first time and they too have a home tie with the Cumberland County League champions Netherhall.
That’s one of the stand-out ties of the last sixteen and is also likely to be contested on a mid-week date.
The other will be the big Carlisle derby between Gillford Park and Carlisle City.
Carlisle United, who will rely on their reserve/youth squad to play in the competition have been drawn away to Wetheriggs United.
Parton United, who produced the shock of the day in Saturday’s second round ties when they beat Cleator Moor Celtic, have been handed a tough trip to Harraby Catholic Club.
The other third round games are: Whitehaven Amateurs v Hearts of Liddesdale; Longtown v Carlile Amateurs; Mirehouse v Aspatria.
As we’ve said the best performance in round two came from Parton United who beat Cleator Moor Celtic 2-1.
Expected to be chicken-fodder for the Wearside League team, the County League strugglers won with goals from Kyle Jenkins-Young and Tom Hodgson. The Celtic goal was scored by Craig Corkhill.
Greystoke, who visit Workington next, accounted for Wigton Athletic 5-3 with Kevin Pattinson grabbing a hat-trick. Grant Hayton and Rob Walker also found the net with Paul Vickers, Adam Steel and Alex Crawford finding the net for Athletic.
Tesco Cumberland County League leaders Longtown were convincing 5-0 winners at Braithwaite as Mark Temple (3), Andy Bell and Andrew McKinnel found the target.
Netherhall also hit five in their second round win at Bransty Rangers. Nick Holden (2), Chris Dawes, Karl Fillingham and Will Heaney were the goal-scorers with Ryan Cornish grabbing the Bransty consolation.
Carlisle Amateurs will have enjoyed their 1-0 win over city rivals Northbank and the goal came from Chris Kelleher.
It was just as tight, but with more goals at Mirehouse where the west Cumbrians beat Penrith Rangers 3-2. Jake Smith, Shane Rooney and Steffan Scott supplied the goals for the Tesco Cumberland County League side.
Aspatria won 3-0 at FC32 with goals from Mark Irwin (2) and Craig Wilson while Wetheriggs Utd won by the same score at Silloth with James Grinberg, Pete Askin and Steve Hall among the goals.
There was a surprise in an all-Tesco Cumberland County League affair with First Division Hearts of Liddesdale accounting for Premier Division Cockermouth 2-1.
Dean Thomson and Dan Brough scored for Hearts with Neil Fox replying for Cockermouth.
Harraby Catholic moved through fairly comprehensively, beating Windscale 4-0. Steve Archibald (2), Rob Bainbridge and Mike Swift scored the goals.
In the other tie Carlisle City won 3-1 at Workington South. Nick Wood got the goal for the Workington side.
