KESWICK Football Club is seeking permission to sell alcohol from their new clubhouse at Hospital Field following senior games on Saturdays.
The club is still waiting to discover the extent of any damage to the pitch following the November floods. Treasurer Brenda Little said: “This will come to light once Spring comes and the growing season starts. We need to raise funds from whatever source we can to give the new pitch the best start possible.”
The football club has been granted its premises licence which includes a licence to sell alcohol and is now asking Keswick’s Charitable Trust for the go ahead to sell alcohol after games.
Income from tea, coffee and snacks has dropped because the bad weather has meant very little football being played. The club wishes to serve drinks until early evenings after Saturday games and does not envisage this going on later in the evening as most people want to get out into the town.
Mrs Little said it would be aimed at club members as, for understandable reasons, the facility would not be attracting much passing trade. They also wish to serve alcohol at certain fund raising events and prizegivings throughout the year.
Meanwhile Keswic's Charitable Trust is making good, albeit slow, progress with moves towards setting up a new car park in Hospital Field.
Trust clerk Lynda Walker, in a report to members, says Keswick Hospital has indicated support for the proposal and a “strong case” could be made that a car park in this location would help resolve traffic issues.
Talks have taken place with the Environment Agency, National Park Authority and County Council Transport Group and an application is to be submitted in the coming months.
Trust chairman Ian Hall said that the planned car park was moving very slowly, but for the best of reasons as they wanted to be sure that, when they got to the stage of applying for planning permission, they had the best chance of success.
Mr Hall said this involved getting support from as many “stakeholders” as possible and assured members progress was being made.
Planning consultant Peter Winter and the clerk attended the last Keswick BIDs meeting to update on progress with the planning application.
