Both Division One and Division Two titles in the West Cumbria Over-35’s League were settled off the pitch this week.
Grasslot, who were the only team who could catch Division One leaders Carlisle City (pictured left), were unable to raise a team to play Penrith and concede the game.
That made it mathematically impossible for them to win the league and City celebrated with a close 2-0 victory over Whitehaven at St Bees. David Jenkins scored both the City goals.
The Globe from Cockermouth (pictured below) clinched the Division Two title when Silloth were unable to raise a team and they also conceded the game, ensuring the Globe could not be caught at the top of the table.
The Globe played two games recently and took all six points on offer with victories over Frostoms 3-0 and the Howard's Rangers 7-3.
Amazingly Rab Bower scored eight goals in these two games - a hat trick against Frostoms and then going nap against the Howard's scoring five goals.
Bobby van den Bosche and Mike Brelsford each chipped in with a goal.
The Bush rescued a point against the Bluebell when Steve Cunningham equalised in the last minute after Bob Fowler had given the Bluebell an early lead.
Silloth beat bottom club Hall Park Hotel 4-2 with goals from Angus Harrison, Keith Hodgson, Peter Mawbray and Mike Pritchard.
Lyndsey Clark and Colin Pearson scored a goal each for the Workington team.
