YoungFrostoms were reduced to ten men early in their West Cumbria Over-35’s clash with Howard’s Rangers – but still went on to win 2-1.

The man to walk after 15 minutes of this Second Division clash was Tommy Linford for abuse to a linesman.

Howard's tried to make the most of the extra man and were unlucky not to score when Malcolm Graham hit the post. Some poor finishing from the Carlisle team meant the teams went in goal less at half time.

Barry "The Cat" Stewart in the Howard's nets pulled off a remarkable double save from Frostoms Wayne Murray after 50 minutes, but was powerless to stop Murray giving the Workington team the lead when he flicked in a Mike Byers free kick.

Stuart Nixon then equalised for the Carlisle side ten minutes later before Kevin Young (pictured alongside) earned Frostoms three points when he fired home following a superb through ball from their man of the match Khris Klimek.

The Globe went to the top of the Division two table after a 5-2 victory over a plucky Silloth team who, could have gained something from the game had their finishing been better.

Tony Allaker, Scott Carruthers, Mike Graham, Jon Smythe and Bobby van den Bossche all scored a goal each while Silloth’s Colin Campbell grabbed a brace.

The Hall Park were knocked for six in the second half of their game against the Bush, after an even first half when neither team managed a clear shot on target.

However in the second half some very poor defending by the Workington team allowed the Bush to run away with the game as Steve Cunningham (2), Mike White (2), Con Maguire and Scott Walker scored for the Cockermouth side.Cunny Con Maguire and Steve Cunningham  are pictured below.

Moresby beat Bluebell 3-0 but the first 75 minutes were pretty even despite Andy Lithgow scoring after about 25 minutes.

Despite there being nothing between the teams the Bluebell didn't really test the Moresby keeper George Dixon in the game.

The Bluebell had the odd half chance here and there but nothing to pressurise Dixon. Lithgow made it 2-0 after 80 minutes and then Ken Smith made it 3-0 late-on.

The Workington team struggled in the last 20 minutes due as they ran out of players due to injuries and tiring. Kenny Kirkwood , Nick Cole and Martyn Wallace were all outstanding .

In Division One Carlisle Zimmer's recorded their first win of the season when they beat Whitehaven 3-0. Paul Telfer and Alan James (2) were on the mark.

Carlisle City suffered a rare defeat at Frizington. Adam Jackson (2) and Steve Carruthers scored to set-up a 3-1 win while Craig Milne scored for the second game in a row for the Carlisle side.

Grasslot got back to winning ways when they put in a strong performance against their visitors from Carlisle St Bede’s to win 4-2.

Mike Dempsey (2), Paul Southwell and Steven Scott were the Maryport team’s scorers. For plucky St Bede’s Mike Swailes and Doug Sharp each scored a goal each.

A special word should be made of referee Wayne Davidson who has officiated in less than ten games but put in an excellent performance in the middle.

Penrith travelled to Netherhall for their second league game of the new campaign and were missing several regular players.

Within five minutes they had fallen behind after some slack marking allowed the Netherhall striker Bobby Burton all the time in the world and he blasted home from close range, giving Sonny Askins no chance in the Penrith goal.

Despite the early setback Penrith then took the game to their hosts and created several good chances themselves,

Martin Blenkinship found himself clean through and although his shot beat Netherhall keeper Jon Glover he was unlucky to see his effort rebound off the post and away to safety,

Mark Brookes also went close when a spectacular overhead kick from 25 yards went narrowly wide. The young Netherhall goalkeeper also had to be at his best to keep out shots from Alan Parkin and Derek Brough as Penrith searched for an equaliser.

Penrith finally got the breakthrough they deserved when a great ball by Blenkinship found Brookes and he coolly slotted past the advancing keeper,

Penrith were well on top but it was Netherhall who scored next as a mistake at the back allowed the home sides forward Burton clean through on goal and although Askins got to the ball first the rebound fell kindly to Burton leaving an empty net to roll the ball into.

Yet again Penrith responded well and in the dying seconds of the half Dave Ryding beat the keeper in the air but saw his header go an inch over the bar to ensure the hosts led at half time.

The second half continued in much the same way and although Penrith created some neat football the final ball was generally poor. They did have more luck when Mike Chubb beat the offside trap and rounded keeper Glover to finish from an acute angle.

With Penrith having only two substitutes to call on tiredness soon crept into their play and for the final quarter of the match they endured wave upon wave of Netherhall pressure,

Mark Lawson and Ryding were commanding in the air and anything else was generally cleaned up by Askins who was in total control of his 18 yard box.

All in all Penrith had the chances to win this game in the first half and after 75 minutes most Penrith players would have been happy to hear the referees whistle blow for full time as they gained their second successive draw away from home.
