Bowman stays at Carlisle for the time being PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 March 2010

ryan_bowman1.jpgWorkington Reds have been unable to retain striker Ryan Bowman for another month because of a striker crisis at Carlisle United.

Bowman, who scored once in limited appearances for the Reds during the last month, will be on stand-by for United with limited attacking resources at their disposal.

Reds chairman Humphrey Dobie said: “In don’t think we’ve ruled-out getting Ryan back again but for the moment he’s staying at Carlisle and may even be in their squad.

“We’re led to believe hat one of those strikers, Scott Dobie, is likely to be out for up to another ten days so Ryan will be covering for him during that time.

“It’s possible that we will be able to sort out another month’s loan for Ryan, which would virtually see us through to the end of the season, once Carlisle are over their injury problems.”

Dobie, Joe Anyinah and Darryl Duffy are all out with groin injuries so new loan signing Jason Price has only misfiring Richard Offiong, rookie Ben Marshall and Gary Madine for company at the moment.

Bowman has impressed Reds boss Darren Edmondson with his attitude, his work-rate and his contributions so far – although most have been from the bench.

His father and grand-father, both from Carlisle, have watched him play for Reds in Blue Square North.

In fact getnoticedonline.co.uk can reveal an interesting anecdote regarding his grad-father. He watched from the seats on the popular side and when he got home realised his wallet had dropped-out of his back pocket somewhere.

Amazingly when he retuned to Borough Park for the next home game and went back to the same seat, the wallet was there – with £50 in cash still inside.

With Bowman missing tomorrow for the visit of Corby Town, and Dan Shannon on loan with Rossendale United, Callum Ruttledge will be recalled to the squad. He wasn’t required for Tuesday’s trip to Blyth.

Shannon scored twice on his debut as a substitute for the last 20 minutes or so last Saturday in a morale-boosting 3-1 win over promotion-chasing Curzon Ashton.

He didn’t score in a 2-2 home draw with Bamber Bridge on Tuesday but had been prominent throughout as he got he full 90 minutes. He was brought down on the edge of the penalty area and from the free-kick Rossendale eventually scored, while when he headed against the post in the second-half a team-mate knocked in the rebound.

Tomorrow they visit Chorley and then have four successive home games as they try to get off the bottom of Unibond Division North.

Meanwhile at Borough Park, Corby Town are the visitors fresh from their very good 2-2 draw at Northwich in midweek.

Manager Graham Drury is optimistic about the rest of the season as the injury list at Rockingham Triangle finally seems to be shrinking.

Gavin Strachan and Steve Diggin both made their comebacks in the midweek draw at Northwich Victoria, Strachan capping his return with a late equaliser.

And Drury should have combative midfielder Leon Hibbert available for tomorrow's long trip to Workington – a timely return given that Steve Towers is suspended.

"It's not looking as bad as it was a month ago on the injury front," continued Drury. "The only long-term ones now are Tommy Jaszczun and Dean West.

"But the rest of the squad is fine and we're looking to carry on the good work from Northwich at Workington."

Previous to that draw at Northwich, Corby had lost at Ilkeston (3-2) and Solihull (3-0).

In the new revised table without Farsley Celtic, Reds are ninth and Corby tenth both on 40 points but Workington have a game in hand.

The League's governing body, the Football Conference, have issued an official statement with regards to Blue Square North side Farsley Celtic.

The statement reads as follows:

On Monday 8th March 2010, the Football Conference was notified that Farsley Celtic FC would be unable to fulfil their Blue Square North fixture on Tuesday 9th March 2010, following advice received from the Administrator overseeing the financial affairs of the club.

This meant the club had failed to fulfil three fixtures, with each being a breach of Football Conference Rule 8.6. The club had also consistently failed to pay its Football Creditors, being a breach of Football Conference Rule 11.

The Football Conference then received instruction from the Club Secretary to cancel all their players' registrations, with those players having been advised by the Club that they were free to seek other clubs. None of the players registered by the Club were "contracted".

With a continuing player registration embargo on the Club, this makes it impossible for the Club to sign or loan replacement players.

Clearly the actions of the Club have brought The Competition into disrepute, a breach of Football Conference Rule 18.

Furthermore, the Football Conference noted that the Transitional Agreement entered into by the Administrator with the consortium, which had enabled Farsley Celtic (1908) Limited to fulfil fixtures up to 1 March has now expired and had not been renewed. The Club was, therefore, unable to fulfil any further fixtures.

The lack of any players, and the impossibility of fulfilling any further fixtures, means the Club's membership of our Competition has been frustrated. In any event, the Football Conference was faced, with regard to the instruction from the Club Secretary concerning the release of players, as de facto resignation.

Due to these circumstances, The Football Conference was left with no other option than to formally accept the Club's resignation from the Competition and their full playing record is expunged forthwith as of today (Friday 12th March 2010).

A recalculated table for the Blue Square North will be issued by the Football Conference via the Press Association.

All media and club records are also required to delete all individual player goals scored in matches against Farsley Celtic this season in the Blue Square North.

This is to ensure fairness and consistency combined with the integrity of the competition.

This does not affect any matches played in the FA Cup or FA Trophy.

That means Jonny Wright and Callum Ruttledge lose goals from the 2-2 draw at Borough Park.

It could be a lot worse, back in November 1961 when Accrington Stanley lost their Fourth Division place midway through the season Johnny Haasz, Reds’ Hungarian star, had four goals chalked-off from the memorable 4-0 win at eel Park.
