Wearside League club Scarborough Town have applied to join the skilltrainingltd Northern League for the 2010/11 season.
Town, who currently lie second in the table, must achieve a top-two place in order to qualify for the step up.
They must also lay hard standing before the Northern League's grading committee pay a visit to their George Pindar Community College-base on March 31st, with a further year being granted before floodlights and fifty seats have to be in place.
Town manager Mitch Cook said: "It is the natural progression from the Wearside League for us. We have applied and hopefully, if our success continues this season, then we'll make the step up.
"I see the Northern League as one of the strongest leagues at that level of the non-League Pyramid because there are a number of established clubs, who always do well in competitions like the FA Vase."
