Kenny Wallace, joint manager of the Whitehaven Amateurs for the last three years, is standing down.
Wallace, along with John George, has overseen Whitehaven’s rise through the Wearside League to this season’s eventual promotion to the Northern League.
In an exclusive interview with getnoticedonline.co.uk he said: “I don’t believe in doing a job in which I can’t be totally committed.
“New job commitments will make it impossible for me to be at training or matches as much as I should be.
“I have told John and the club chairman Billy Robson of my decision. The club is going places and it needs people in place who have the time to give it their total commitment.
“I’ve enjoyed my time with the club. I have been frustrated on occasions when I have felt the players could have done better, but we’ve had some great times.
“Hopefully John can bring in the right man to work alongside him at Whitehaven and continue to make progress. I’ve made my suggestion but it will be up to John.”
In the last three years Whitehaven have won the Wearside League, finished runners-up and this season finished in third place.
Their County Ground set-up had received the necessary grading certificate to be acceptable to the Northern League but a third-place finish was not considered good enough.
However, in a late twist of fate Durham City were promoted to the Unibond League, creating a vacancy in the Northern League which was then offered to Whitehaven.
Chairman Billy Robson said: “I’d just like to thank Kenny for all he’s done for Whitehaven Amateurs. We have had the best three years we’ve ever had under him and John. He has brought a lot to the club and I wish him well for the future. I understand why he made the decision but he will always be welcome at Whitehaven Amateurs.”
