The last mid-eek fixtures for the start of the Tesco Cumberland County League produced some shocks.
Aspatria defeated Longtown 3-1 while Bransty Rangers handed Frizington White Star their first league defeat of the season with a 3-0 victory.
New boys FC 32 won a ten-goal thriller 6-4 against Mirehouse while the other promoted side Carlisle AFC travelled to champions Netherhall and after a cracking game went down 4-2.
Cockermouth's climb up the table continued as they took all the point in a 2-1two one win at Wigton Harriers.
Tesco Division One also had shocks as Whitehaven AFC are now the only unbeaten team in this division. T, they travelled the short distance to neighbours Whitehaven Miners and ran out 6-1 winners.
Parton United suffered a heavy 9-2 home defeat at the hands of St. Bees while Silloth were 3-1 winners at home to Wigton Athletic.
Cleator Moor Celtic beat Windscale 4-2 at home as Grant Carson grabbed a hat-trick.
Carlisle City defeated Harraby Catholic Club 2-0 and Borough were 4-1 winners at home to South Workington.
Saturday's results saw thirteen goals at Bransty, but unfortunately for the home side only three were scored by them against Longtown. Ryan Cornish, Luke Messenger and Rhys Coyles scored the consolations for their side as Longtown bounced back after that midweek defeat. Phil Storey and Mark Temple scored four each as Rob Trent netted the other two.
Ricky James also scored four, netting them all in Carlisle AFC’s 4-0 win against Mirehouse.
Division One action saw a first win for Whitehaven Miners as they beat Silloth 2-1. Ryan Fitzsimons hit both as Brian Hayhurst scored for the visitors.
Andrew Hetherington netted both for Borough as they also ran out 2-1 winners against Windscale with Martin Sanderson hitting the consolation goal.
The J J Club-sponsored Whitehaven Cup had rather an embarrassing situation for the league as Cockermouth v Whitehaven AFC was to be the featured match in the press, but due to the fact that Whitehaven AFC failed to raise a team for the cup clash we failed to have a featured match.
Cockermouth go through to round two and Whitehaven will be dealt with by the management committee which meet on Sunday, September 12.
Ties that did go ahead produced some shocks as First division Carlisle City beat premier league side FC 32 after extra time. Stewart and Simpson were on target for City while Morgan scored for the visitors.
Cleator Moor Celtic moved into round two as they ran out 3-0 winners over St. Bees. Aaron Rossi hit two and top scorer Grant Carson netted the other.
Frizington White Star and South Workington were involved in a nine goal thriller with the home side edging it by the odd goal. Craig Trembath (2), Cameron Carruthers, Shaun O'Prey and Glen Meegan scored for Frizington. Levi Johnston (2), Mark Kilgour and John McMillan replied for South Workington.
Netherhall ran out 4-0 winners against Wigton Athletic with Karl Fillingham netting two and Andrew Lawes and David Towers hitting the others.
First division Parton United pushed Wigton Harriers all the way as extra time was needed before the Premier League were able to move into round two. Ryan Ousby and Chris Graves scored for Harriers and Parton's consolation game via Callum Sirkett.
Warwick Wanderers pulled off the shock of the round as they dumped Aspatria out in the first round. All square at 1-1 each it was extra time and that also ended level as it finished 2-2. Martin Cowers hit both for Warwick as Mark and Stuart Irwin replied for Aspatria's. On the penalty shoot out it was Warwick who kept their nerve and ran out 4-3 winners
