The Tesco Cumberland County League got off to a flying start as all the games went ahead with 50 goals from eleven games.
Champions Netherhall made a winning start as Andrew Lowes and Daniel Burgess scored in a 2-0 win over Wigton Harriers.
Longtown bounced back from last week’s Charity Shield defeat to record a 4 - 1 win over a young Mirehouse team. New signing Phil Storey fired Longtown in front and Ross Prince doubled that lead.
Gregg Mitchell, a new signing from Frizington, gave Mirehouse hope as he netted his first goal of the new season but that hope was short lived as Storey marked his debut with a hat-trick.
The two promoted teams started life in the Tesco Premier League with defeats as Carlisle AFC lost 5-3 at home to Cockermouth. A warning over phoning in scores was issued afterwards as the home team did not communicate the result and the away team did so – but late.
FC 32 also lost at home to Frizington White Star. Kieran Doyle hit the consolation but Frizington never called in with the result and the same can be said of Bransty Rangers who lost at Aspatria 4 – 1.
Richard Hudson grabbed a brace and Darrel Creighton and Shaun Law also netted.
Those three premier league clubs who didn’t phone in the scores will join two from the first division Windscale and Whitehaven Miners in being issued with fines under rule 11B.
In Division One all the newly elected teams had good starts as Harraby Catholic Club had a thumping 7 - 2 win at Cleator Moor Celtic. Ryan Hall and Gareth McCarron scored for the Celtic but a daft ten minutes at the end made the score line flattering as Jordon Coyle hit a hat-trick and Lee Maler went one better as he netted four.
Warwick Wanderers also got off to a flyer as relegated Whitehaven Miners found it tough in Division One. Lee Thompson scored twice and one each from Scott Devers and Chris Hall sealed the win but there were no scorer for Miners.
Borough had Carlisle City to thank for their first point in the league as Craig Bell scored at the right end for City but an unnamed team-mate scored at the wrong end as it ended all square.
Silloth welcomed back John Slack with a win as Andrew Hind and Brian Hayhurst netted against Parton United.
South Workington and Windscale shared the points in a six goal thriller. Liam Cook with a brace and Nick Wood scored for the Workington side but no scores were called in by Windscale.
Wigton Athletic also notched three over St. Bees as Rory Pearson and Peter McNeil netted along with a Saints’ player as Wigton took all the points
