KENDAL Town have been involved in a series of matches this season which have ended 3-2 – but few have been as dramatic as Saturday’s.

The Unibond Challenge Cup-tie at Woodley Sports was settled in extra-time after a frantic end to the normal 90 minutes.

Kendal had actually given up home advantage to switch to Woodley’s artificial surface and it didn’t seem to affect them as they raced into a third minute lead.

Remarkably it stayed at 1-0 to the Cumbrians until the last four minutes when three more goals sent the fourth round tie to extra time.

Gavin Salmon had levelled-up the tie for the hosts on 86 minutes but Kendal bounced back to regain the lead three minutes later.

Callum Warburton grabbed the goal which seemed to have settled the tie.

But remarkably Woodley Sports responded by grabbing a second equaliser through Matt Cotton who forced home from close range almost at the death.

Nobody could take their eyes off the pitch and in the third minute of the first period of extra time centre-back George Melling put Town back in front.

There had been four goals scored in a seven minute period – and that was it. Kendal held on to take their place in the quarter finals.
