Mark Hume Buxtonex HarrogateFormer Barrow and Harrogate utility player Mark Hume has dropped into the Unibond Premier Division with Buxton.

Hume, now 30, learnt his trade as a youngster with Barnsley before being transferred to Doncaster Rovers in 1998. He was subsequently transferred to Barrow in 2000 after loan spells at Gainsborough and Gateshead.

He made 188 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring an impressive 43 goals and was transferred to Alfreton for a fee in 2004.

Hume (pictured alongside) was hampered by a leg break and eventually moved to Stalybridge Celtic in 2006 where he first played under present Buxton boss John Reed.

He only spent a season with Harrogate Town where he still showed he knew where the goals are, although he can also play equally solidly in defence.

Reed beat off competition from the likes of AFC Telford United, Hyde United and Alfreton Town for his signature.

He said: “Mark has a tremendous scoring record when either playing up front or at the back and will be a great asset as we try to step-up on last season’s fifth-placed finish.”

Harrogate manager Neil Aspin said: "Mark did very well for us last year. We were in discussions to keep him here but he felt like he had been made a better offer and he had to take it.

"There's no fall out with myself and I can understand his point of view why he wanted to go."
