200px-Solskjaer_croppedBARROW have pulled-out of a visit to Borough Park for a pre-season friendly.

The match was revived last season for the Chas Kendall Trophy with Barrow staging and winning at Holker Street.

It was agreed that Reds would host this year’s friendly but the west Cumbrians have been unable to pin-down their county rivals to a specific date.

Chairman Humphrey Dobie said: “The problem seems to have been that Barrow had already arranged four other friendly matches away from home and they were keen to play at Holker Street.

“The up-shot is that we have agreed to travel there for the game, as we did last year, but we have been promised half of the gate receipts.”

The Workington chairman also revealed to getnoticedonline.co.uk that he has written a personal letter to Ole Gunnar Solskjær (pictured), the boss of the Manchester United reserve team.

He explained: “I was told that there might be a chance of getting a Manchester United team to come-up and play a pre-season game if I dropped a line to Solksjaer. I have done that and I’m just keepinmg fingers crossed we are lucky.

“We have also put our marker down for a friendly with a Newcastle United side. As until yesterday they did not appear to have arranged any games at all.”

Reds return to training on Thursday and have a number of matches already lined-up. A visit from a Man Utd or Newcastle team would be the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile Nick Rogan, who had been on Darren Edmondson’s radar has signed for big-spending Fleetwood Town, who have also signed his former Bluebirds buddie Steve McNulty for £17,000.

Edmondson – who has added Matt Henney, Stephen Hindmarch and Aaron Taylor to the squad with the likelihood of Shaun Vipond re-joining – has a number of players coming to try-out in the pre-season training and friendlies.
