town_sign_at_reds_001.jpgLeague sponsors Blue Square Bet North have taken the rap for the blunder over the new sign at Borough Park.

They committed the ultimate faux pas with the erection of a sign which welcomed visitors to Workington Town!

The club was aware that the sign was being delivered but the office was closed so the sign was erected by the contractor in Reds’ officials absence.

The Conference – who were not responsible – have now been informed and the error will be rectified as soon as possible.

Chairman Humphrey Dobie said: “Obviously nobody was there when the contractors arrived to do the job or they would have been made aware of the error before they put it on the fence.

“But because there was no-one at the club at the time they went ahead and put it up, which proved to be a bit embarrassing.

“The sponsors will be told by the Conference and we are expecting a new sign to be delivered fairly quickly.”

Meanwhile essential groundwork at Borough Park ahead of the erection of the new floodlights, started yesterday.

There have been delays – outside the club’s control – over the delivery of poles but the work will be completed in plenty of time, although perhaps not for the early pre-season friendly with Carlisle United on July 13.
