Workington Reds will have the Bulldog spirit for 2009/10 in Blue Square North!
Bulldog Drainage are to be the new club sponsors for the west Cumbrians after winning today’s draw.
Reds boss Darren Edmondson and Times and Star sports writer John Fuller were at Borough Park to see fair play as the competition entries were numbered and put into the bag.
Metropolitan Racing, Getnoticedonline.co.uk and Technology Store were the three minor winners before Bulldog Drainage came out of the hat as the club sponsors for the season which starts on August 8.
As main club sponsors they will have the Bulldog Drainage logo on all letterheads, compliment slips, season tickets and sponsors tickets. Their name will be on the welcome board to Borough Park and also on an advertising board inside the stadium.
Romar will be the main shirt sponsors while Metropolitan Racing will sponsor the away shirts.
Bulldog Drainage, owned by Richard Bond and Graham Partridge (*left), was set up earlier in the year and has been steadily growing since.
The pair, who were long-time friends of each other’s families, knew that going into business together would make life a lot easier.
They had become the latest business to start-up thanks to the help of Ways into Successful Enterprise based at the Salterbeck Oval Centre.
Those who attended the draw went outside onto the pitch at Borough Park as another scorcher had west Cumbrians reaching for the sun cream.
The pitch looked in excellent condition as groundsman Jeff Curwen broke off from a spot of weed-cropping outside the ground, to watch the draw take place.
Also viewed for the first time was the new fence put up behind the river/Derwent end goals (*pictured below) on instructions from the Blue Square Conference. Effectively it blocks the grass beyond the terracing and is similar to the one in place at Alfreton.
The wise-cracks have already started as the river/Derwent end has now been apparently re-named the Hadrian’s Fence end, or simply Hadrian’s end.
Manager Darren Edmondson was dashing off afterwards to finish his programme at the Lakes College before travelling on to tonight’s training session at Penrith.
The players will get their first run-out on Saturday when they take-on Gretna at Rayedale Park (kick-off 2pm).
“The lads who have been away on holiday should be back tonight, although Shaun Vipond has just gone on his summer break.
“On Saturday we will use two teams over the first and second 45’s by introducing some of the reserve team players,” said the manager.
Edmondson also admitted he was disappointed at the non-appearance of former Huddersfield midfielder Chris Holland, and he has had no explanation from him.
“He had sounded keen and any offers he’d had when we last spoke had been from teams below us. I’m disappointed that he hasn’t been in touch, even if it was to say sorry I’ve decided the travelling will be too much – or whatever,” said the Reds boss.
