THREE-times French champion jockey Christophe Soumillon can help Worikington Reds land a £4,000 plus jackpot tomorrow.
Soumillon (pictured) has been booked to ride Hitchens, David Barron's live outsider in the Steward's Cup at Goodwood.
Getnoticedonline has been assured that Hitchens is a lively outsider who warmed up perfectly for this when 7th last week in the SkyBet Dash at York. He is in form, well drawn, on a good mark, has a brilliant jockey on board and at 25/1 is more than capable of getting into the top five in this race.
If he wins Workington will benefit from an initiative by League sponsors Blue Square Bet who will be paying a huge bonus to a lucky club if their specially allocated horse is successful in the Bluesq.com Stewards’ Cup on Saturday at Glorious Goodwood.
Workington were allocated Hitchens.
All 68 clubs in the Blue Square Bet Premier, North and South were given ‘ownership’ of a horse from this weekend’s prestigious race after a draw on Monday at the betting company’s headquarters in London.
To commemorate their new three year deal to sponsor the league Blue Square have created a prize fund for clubs centered around this showpiece race. The club with the winning horse will receive a cheque for £2000 plus an additional amount determined by a £100 bet on that horse. So for example a 20/1 winner would yield another £2000 for the lucky team. The race will take place at 3.40pm on Saturday 31st July – Live on Channel 4 and Racing UK.
Blue Square spokesman Alan Alger said: “This is our way of giving something back to the clubs who supported us through the first three years of sponsoring this great league. “It brings together our two biggest sponsorships and the winning club will benefit by what is a significant amount of money at this level.”
A full profile of each horse is available under the Stewards’ Cup preview on the Blue Square betting blog at betting.bluesq.com. Fans that want to back their horse (or any other in the race) can go to www.bluesq.com/yourclub to open an account by clicking the badge of the team they support. The account will then be registered to earn money for that club with every bet placed.
Meanwhile Reds boss Darren Edmondson has offered terms to two of the trialists who have appeared regularly in the pre-season friendlies.
Striker Matt Tymon, who has scored three goals and former Ilkeston defender Alex White have been given the opportunity to join the Workington squad.
But Edmondson has released winger Rico Colulo, a former Morecambe Academy player who hasn’t shown enough to warrant an offer.
The fourth trialist, ex-Morecambe striker Aaron Taylor is talking with Edmondson although no offer has been made.
Edmondson has been asked to trim his squad by three or four players before the opening Blue Square North game on Saturday, August 14.
Workington have lost two very experienced players in goalkeeper Tony Caig and midfielder/skipper Tony Hopper which has left a hole in Edmondson’s squad.
Edmondson would like to add former Carlisle and QPR midfielder Paul Murray to his squad but he is still at Hartlepool, playing ion the majority of their pre-season friendlies, although no deal has been announced.
