THE mystery of Chris Holland’s non-appearance at Workington Reds training sessions can now be revealed.
The 33-year-old former Huddersfuield midfielder has signed for Unibond Premier League side Guiseley.
Holland had promised Reds boss Darren Edmondson that he would be joining Reds at their first training session a week gone Thursday – but did not show.
Since then Edmondson has had no word from his former Huddersfiueld team-mate or no message of explanation.
At the time Holland had been alking to several clubs – all lower down the football pyramid than Reds and Edmondson felt he would get an opportunity to win him over when he trained with the Cumbrians.
“I was very disappointed not to hear anything at all from Chris. I thought he would have at least contacted me to say he didn’t fancy the travelling or had found a club nearer home,” said Edmondson.
But Edmondson had three other trialists on view at Gretna on Saturday - full-back Darren Casson; midfielder Mario Campagna and scoring strker Dan Shannon – and had already resigned himself to losing any chance of signing Holland.
Workington train tonight and Thursday before playing their second friendly on Satuirday at home to Carlisle United (3pm).
Andy Langford returns from holiday on Friday but will be travelling-up for half an hour against the Blues, but Gareth Arnison and Andy Hardman – who had the full 90 minutes at Gretna are due to go away on holiday.
Carlisle United have promised to send a first team to play the friendly, as part of the arrangement that took goalkeeper Adam Collin to Brunton Park during the summer.
