tommy-cassidy_in_northern_ireland_shirt.jpgFormer Reds manager Tommy Cassidy and his one-time chairman at Borough Park Dale Brotherton, should have headed-up a football forum in Workington tonight.

St. John’s Ward Residents Association had organised the Forum for John Street Club on behalf of Air Ambulance and Help the Heroes.

But unfortunately the event has been cancelled and organiser Bill Doran said: “We just didn’t sell the tickets we were hoping for.”

Cassidy, Workington’s longest-serving manager who guided Reds from the Unibond First Division to Blue Square North still has strong Cumbrian connections with his work as match summariser for Carlisle United on BBC Radio Cumbria.

It would have been a topical visit for TC, too, as the World Cup nears its climax. He was a member of Northern Ireland’s most famous appearance on the world stage when they beat hosts Spain in 1982.

Spain’s appearance in Sunday’s final would obviously have brought comparisons from the former Newcastle star.
