matty_tymon.jpgWorkington Reds have had three trialists involved in the early pre-season training sessions as the build-up continues for the new season.

Matt Tymon (pictured), a 20-year-old striker released by Hartlepool United, has been to both sessions so far while another ex-League striker travelled-up with Manchester-based Andy Langford on Tuesday.

A third new face, who has most recently been playing in the Unibond League North with Colwyn Bay, also joined the squad for Tuesday’s session.

Manager Darren Edmondson expects a fourth trialist to join the training when he returns from holiday.

Tymon did not make the first team at Hartlepool after joining the club as a trainee but he did score on two short loan spells with Whitby Town and South Shields.

He had joined Hartlepool as an Under-15 and was a regular scorer with the youth team and later the reserves, which earned him a pro contract in 2009.

Reds have been concentrating on fitness levels in the early work-outs as Edmondson and assistant Viv Busby are demanding the team comes flying out of the blocks at the start of the League season.

The fixtures for Blue Square North are to be released later today with the first matches on Saturday, August 14.

Reds are a week away from their first pre-season friendly, a trip to Raydale Park, Gretna next Thursday.

Meanwhile an influx of new teams in the Lancashire League will see Reds Reserves playing no fewer than twenty-six league games this season.

They will again play in the West Division of the league which will accommodate 14 teams.

Following the demise of Burscough in mid-season, champions Southport and Barrow resigned at the end of the campaign but five new teams – Bootle, Colne, Mossley, Squires Gate and Witton Albion – were duly elected.

The composition of the West Division now reads: AFC Fylde, Bamber Bridge, Bootle, Colne, Curzon Ashton, Fleetwood Town, Formby, Lancaster City, Mossley, Squires Gate, Stalybridge Celtic, Witton Albion, Woodley Sports and Workington.

This will be Reds’ eighth season in the league and, generally, they have finished in the lower half of the table with a next-to-bottom finish last term.  The exception was the memorable 2007-08 campaign when they emerged champions and League Cup finalists.

The AGM, held at the Lancashire FA’s Leyland headquarters, also ratified a fourteen team East Division.

The new season will commence on 14th August.
