Scotland one week, Spain the next, but it seems to make no difference to Cumbria’s Gary Lockerbie whose rich vein of form continues.

Playing at the National Golf Centre course in Madrid, the Penrith based Lockerbie shot a four round total of 272 to finish in the top ten for the second successive tournament.

A brilliant final round of 66 with eight birdies, marred only by two bogies moved him swiftly up the leaderboard to a tied tenth spot alongside Jimenez and Luke Donald.

This final round score alongside a 68, 70 and another 68 in the third round has confirmed that he appears to be gaining the consistency needed to succeed at this higher level.

The tournament was won by Ross McGowan whose magical third round figure of 60, yes 60, left him in an unassailable position and even a final score of 71 left him the winner by three shots.

The Finn Mikko Ilonen was three strokes further back on 70 with David Drysdale a further shot behind.

The Spanish favourites Miguel Jimenez finished on 272 alongside our Cumbrian representative with Sergio Garcia a further shot behind.
