The Beckwatchers have added to the recent successes which have thrust Workington Golf Club into the national spotlight.
The three-man team won the England Champion Club Championship to cap a momentous year.
William Bowe won the County Matchplay and the County Championship; Seb Crookall-Nixon retained his English Under-16’s championship and the club’s ladies won the Cecil Leach Trophy.
But now, not to be outdone, the elder statesmen – the Beckwatchers – have joined in by winningb the insugural Clementson Tantalus team trophy played at Penrith Golf Club.
The team of nine comprised – Walter Hogg, John Fitzpatrick, Alan Burns, Keith Robley, Tony Davis, Roly Potts, Frank McGuckin, Rae Dnwood and John Lamond.
They achieved a total of 260 Stableford points which gave them first place ahead of host club Penrith.
Other competing clubs were Barnard Castle, Appleby, Hexham, Keswick, Brampton, Powfoot and Carlisle.
As well; as winning the Team Trophy one of the Beckwatchers John Lamond won the best individual score with 40 points and Walter Hogg was third with 38 points.
