WORKINGTON’S Will Bowe stands six shots off a qualification place after two rounds of the European Tour qualifier at Hacienda Del Alamo near Murcia in Spain.

After shooting a level par 72 in the first round he struggled to a 77 in today’s second round.

He lies on 149 at the half-way stage and the player currently in 20th position (the final qualifying slot) has 143.

Bowe is bidding to reach the final stage of qualifying at PGA Golf Catalunya near Girona, also in Spain in his bid to make the Tour.

In Friday’s opening round Bowe had three birdies and three bogeys in his round, with the rest all pars and the only time he three-putted on the round was at the 17th.

But he made a poor start today and only a superb effort over the last seven holes got him back into contention.

Today he started with double bogey and bogey and at the turn was six over par but he covered the last seven holes in two under par.
Howard Walker, a fellow member of the Workington club is acting as his caddy, and said: “It was a disappointing tart but he got himself going again and played really well over the last seven. He had been well pleased with his efforts on the opening day.

“He knows that he has work to do over the last two holes but I ready for it.”

Temperatures in Spain are in the mid 70’s and Bowe remains determined to achieve his goal.

He has had excellent backing from Shepley Engineering for his attempt to make the Tour.
