The £21m Cumberland Newspaper Group pension scheme has appointed Punter Southall to provide all core pension services.
The consultant replaces rival Mercer at the Cumbria-based independent local media business following a competitive tender process.
As part of the mandate they will provide actuarial, administration, benefit consultancy, trustee secretarial and investment consultancy services for the publisher's 650 defined benefit scheme members.
Cumberland Newspaper Group finance director Andrew Swanston said the consultant had been appointed following a "rigorous tender process".
Punter Southall principal Gerry Devenney said the appointment was part of the group's overall push to expand the business across Scotland and the north of England.
