Film ArchiveThe Digital Film Archive Fund has announced that it’s awarded over £130k to six organisations in a bid to increase people’s access to regional screen heritage.

Those receiving funding include Cumbria County Council who will use £30,000 for a community film archive and web project.

A spokeswoman said: "This is the first time we’ve been able to offer this fund across such a wide area in the region, with some fantastic projects in Cumbria, Blackpool, Wigan and Liverpool.”

Other recipients are Abandon Normal Devices (a New Cinema and Digital Culture festival), Hurricane Films, Media 19, visitBlackpool and the Turnpike Gallery.
 
The cash, which comes via UK Film Council lottery funding, is delivered by Northwest Vision and Media.

Deborah Parker, head of audience development at Northwest Vision and Media aid: “Moving images bring our history alive like no other medium can. We want the public to enjoy greater access to this content in the digital age, regardless of where they live, and at the same time secure the long term preservation of these materials.”

As well as Cumbria County Council, visitBlackpool has received£30,000 for “Cine-Variety” which will use archive footage “to evoke a sense of civic pride” as part of its Showzam Festival.

Hurricane Films in Liverpool has been given £25k for a Community Film Hub, which has been created by the team behind Of Time and the City. It will invite community film makers and groups from across the country to upload and share their footage online.
