keswickshow.jpgKESWICK’S popular August Bank Holiday agricultural show has become the first of 2010’s big events in Cumbria to bite the dust.

The Show will not be held this year to give the field at Crossings Corner, badly damaged during the atrocious weather at last year's event, a chance to recover.

The decision was made at the Annual Meeting and Show Secretary Judith Hildreth said: "The floods in November meant we couldn't really get on to the field at all. It just hasn't had time to recover. It’s been disappointing for organisers who put in so much work and for the thousands of people who enjoy coming to Keswick show on the Bank Holiday Monday."

This year was meant to mark the 150th anniversary of the show. It has been a difficult time for Keswick Show which normally attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The show was cancelled in 2007 and 2008 because of the weather, and although last year's show went ahead, the weather was dreadful and getting vehicles on and off the site left it badly damaged.

Mrs. Hildreth added: "The committee is planning a barbecue in June as a get together for those involved and as a fund-raiser for the event in 2011."
