A new footbridge has been opened over Appletreeworth Beck in south Lakeland in memory of the late Lady Angela Rooker.
The old bridge disappeared a number of years ago and the only way to cross was on slippery stepping stones.
Keen walker and Lake District enthusiast, Lord Rooker (Minister for Sustainable Food and Farming and Animal Health) privately funded the project in memory of his wife.
The new memorial bridge now makes crossing the stream much easier and safer for everyone
Lord Rooker wanted to create a memorial to his wife in the Lake District countryside that would also benefit lovers of the outdoors, so with the help of Friends of the Lake District, the Forestry Commission and other partners, the site was given a permanent makeover to allow as many people as possible to enjoy it once again.
He said: "Angela was a keen fell walker for nearly 20 years, but she loved the low level walks in the Coniston area. I’m delighted with the bridge at Appletreeworth Beck and hope it will be enjoyed by all walkers.”
