youthclubs.jpgKESWICK Youth Club and the Theatre by the Lake were the largest beneficiaries, each receiving £3,500, when Keswick Town Council held its annual grants meeting.

The Council has awarded more than £15,000 in grants to local groups from its 2010-11 budget.

The largest of the grants was to Theatre by the Lake to help with its youth, amateur and community work. Keswick Youth Club was also given a total of £3,500 towards insurance costs for its Old Mill building and to help pay for a youth worker.

Keswick Rugby Club was awarded £3,000 as part of a five year commitment by the council to help improve drainage to the pitches, increase pitch maintenance and install floodlights.

The council made a £2,750 grant to Keswick in Bloom to help with projects to enhance the town, particularly as they were going forward to Britain in Bloom in 2010.

First Keswick Scout Group was granted £1,000 to help with insurance costs for its building and the same figure was awarded to Keswick Tourism Association to help support the development of the organisation. Keswick Out of School Club was awarded £600 towards provision of childcare, and £180 went to Allerdale PARCS scheme for play sessions in the town during school holidays.

However other local organisations missed out on grants for the coming year. These included requests from Keswick Community Housing Trust for help with the initial costs for legal advice; SusKes, for help with creating boundaries for new allotment gardens; St, John's Church, to help extend the churchyard for community use; Lake District Calvert Trust, for help to buy a second hand horse box; and the Great North Air Ambulance.
